    Re: Beogram CD50

CD50 can be kind of a pain in the ass to work on. I have 4 that I have fixed so far and two more sitting on the bench. Biggest problem I see with them is the spindle motors slowly wearing out and going bad with no replacement other than a donor unit.

Unless your friend likes to screw around inside a CD player or has the funds to pay someone else to do it for him I would suggest he look into a CD5500 instead. More reliable and actually easier to work out the mechanics on.

I like the CD50 for its looks and funky front loading tray and diplay  lamping much more so than the later 5500 and on but there are a lot more mechnics that can go worng or get out of kilter than any of the other B&O players. I will probably be tuning a tweaking these things along for as long as I own them or as long as the lasers hold up.

My bottom line opinion for this machine is that thay are in their late 20's and regular tuning and maintenance is probably going to be the reality. They do sound nice when working properly

    Re: Beogram CD50

Hi Eugene, I totally agree with your comments and I also offered my Beogram CD5500. But I think it is not compatible with the Beomaster 5000 since the Data cable is with 5 pins in the CD50 and 7 pins in the CD5500. Am I wrong on this?

The CD 55500 is compatible with the 5000 the datalink is the same. Just needs a 7 pin cable. At one time my setup was a BM5000 BG5500CD and a BG3000.

For me the best of the best from that time period.

I do like the CD50 it doesnt sound bad when working properly, bought most of mine for under $30 as non working units and was able to sort through the tray mechanics and get them going again. But I would equate the CD50 to an old car that need frequent maintenance.

Hello Eugene, Could you possibly let me know if an adaptor from 7 to 5 pins is needed or you can already plug directly the CD5500 to the Beomaster 5000? Many thanks in advance. Best regards Spiros

    Re: Beogram CD50

The CD5500 uses the exact same 7 pin DIN lead/plug (assuming pins 6 & 7 haven't been unscrewed) as the CD50 & will work perfectly well with a Beomaster 5000 including all remote control functions.

PS - You can actually plug a 5 pin DIN plug into a 7 pin DIN socket.

    Chris.

Chris answered the question - yes the Cd5500 is totally compatible and will respond to the mcp 5000 as well as the terminal 5000.

If you need a 7 pin cable sounds heavenly will have it

    Re: Beogram CD50

Dear Chris, Dear Eugene, Many thanks both for your information provided. For sure a CD5500 is far a better choice and will follow this way. Best regards Spiros
