Utilising my B&O equipemnt with a non B&O TV

    Hi,

I have invested in B&O products more or less since i left school many years back, but as a technical professional, I could not accept the world of B&O flatscreens. There are many reason for this, to many to mention here, but I have just invested in the topline product from Sony.

Now to my question; I have kept my Beocenter 3200, 4 Beolab 4000 in my living room and would like to interconnect my Sony TV and/or my Sony Blueray player to this. As my former Beovsion 3 (with surround kit and TV modulator) have left some kit behind, and I have a vacant ML Converter, I was thinking about utilising this to interconnect to the new system.

The rest of the setup consist of B&O TV 4000 series with Beolink Video converter in the bedroom and a Beolink active with a set of Beovox 100's in the kitchen. Beocom 6000 all over the place and also som LC's, not that this really matter :-)

Cheers for some good advise, and thanks for not calling me a pagan ;-))

    Hi bissus,

Welcome to the forum.  This is a nice easy one and you probably won't even need your ML Convertor!  Nearly all Sony TV's now have audio line output sockets on the back of the panel.  Just connect these to the Aux socket on your Beosound 3200 and select "Aux" to hear the TV through your Beolab 4000's.

If you need any help finding a suitable cable, please email me at steve@soundsheavenly.co.uk and I will advise.

    Best regards,

    Steve.

Unfortunately you will end up with no surround sound, unless you invest in a good surround sound decoder. Sony make good, cheap, reliable decoders, and as long as they have 'pre-outs' you'll be fine. However, you will lose a lot of the functionality of the B&O kit, and it'll function like an entirely non-B&O setup.

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it makes sense to use the AUX input, but I would love to be able to interact a little bit more between the systems.

My thoughts are going in the direction of sending control signals via the Audio AUX Link to get the TV to request service from the B&O side.

The current ROM version ón the ML converter is 1.3 and this might be alterable to accomodate some of the above.

Just have to get my old skills to the surface I think Smile

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Yes, the extra interaction would be good!  I had something similar on my list of "things to invent" Geeked but then I bought a B&O TV instead, so I never got around to it afterwards.....

B&O control signals can be very tricky to decode and control with other equipment, but please let me know how you get on and feel free to ask if you need a second opinion on anything!

    Best regards,

    Steve.
