just bought my first Beocenter 7007

seems likes a incredible bargain , the beocenter 7007 , some S55 speakers and a danish rosewood cabinet. all in original boxes and with leads and remote for 50 quid!! everything seems near  mint condition . the only problem is the tape deck which is not working . all the controls work  but the spindles don't turn . any advice on what this could be would be very much appreciated.  also i notice lots of mentions of user manuals being  on the site . how do i find them?

have to say though,  i,m amazed at the look, design and sound of this B&O

Re: just bought my first Beocenter 7007

    Hi and welcome to BeoworldSmile

That is a very nice set up indeed, these beocenters are extremely well built and have a very good amp. You may want to check the S55's for foam rot in the bass drivers - every pair of these I've seen have suffered with this. Not hard to put right if you are handy and the crossovers will benefit greatly from having the capacitors replaced while you have them open. A kit is available from member Dillen (Martin) as are replacement belts for the cassette deck of the beocenter which is 99% likely to be the problem.

The service manual is available on site for download but this requires a minimum membership level of silver. I've just taken a browse at it and it isn't a particularly full one but the one for the later beocenter 7700 is also there and gives more info' such as how the mechanical parts are assembled.

thanks for the reply chis. will check out the kit and belts.  Just re-checked and found that The speakers are actually

S45's  Not sure if this a bad thing?

Not a huge priority as I  have the beocenter hooked up to my Kef concertos

and it sound spectacular. The stylus looks to be in A1 conditon and detailing is very

    good.

I'm comparing it to my thorens TD 60  and it seems to reveal "more" in some of my

    vinyl.

    cheers

Have a look on the back of the speakers, do the say S45 or S45-2?

If they are S45-2 you are in luck as it means they have rubber surrounds to the woofers and do not suffer from foam rot.Well worth plugging the in for a listen as you might be pleasantly surprised!

You can also connect a CD player if you wish.

    thanks simon

good news is theyre S45-2. they came out of the original box still packed in the cardboard.

and poly.  i plugged them in and yes the sound is excellent. the only thing left is to

find a matching S70? rosewood cabinet , add to existing one and  double  the length of

    the storage set up .

Good news on the S45's, as already metioned they have rubber surrounds so no problem there. The only minor fault with these speakers is the magnets on the bass drivers have recently developed a habit of falling off during transit (nothing you can do to rescue them if this happens) so apply some epoxy resin around the joints if you open them up for recapping.

Re: just bought my first Beocenter 7007

I always thought the 7007 to be an excellent unit. Does the turntable have the MMC20EN fitted? if so, you're going to have to go quite a way to find anything for a typical Thorens deck/arm to equal, let alone better it...

May I very respectfully suggest that the KEF Concerto on low stands (NOT on the floor please) would see off most B&O speakers from the late seventies/early eighties in sound quality if not appearance (grin). If you really want to use B&O speakers with the 7007 I'd suggest some 3800's or 5702's, which are far more in the Concerto's ball park in my opinion.

Having said the above, we sold most of our 7007's with S80's, because that was "the" B&O speaker to use, but from the listening and comparisons I did at the time, they really were the weak link on that system when compared to the British alternatives by KEF, B&W and Spendor for example.

When I first had my Beocenter 9000 it was connected to a pair of KEF C20's. They belonged to my Girlfriend at the time. When we split up I had to find another pair of speakers.LaughingLaughing Never found anything that sounded as good as those KEF's.

After I had posted my previous post, I found those on Ebay. If they were not collection only I may have had a bid or two.LaughingLaughingLaughing

I will stick with the kef set up for now. looks wise its a shame as the rosewood cabinets on the s45's really do match the stand and 7007. still its the sound  thats important . with that in mind i have the concertos set on some extremely heavy ex BBC studio stands ( about a foot of the ground. )  great bass
