Beosound 4 CD spinning but not loading
Hi everyone, I have a huge problem with my newly purchased Beosound 4. While it plays music perfectly off an SD disk, when I load a CD, the glass door closed partially and then prompts me to load the CD again. It's almost as though the CD is not sitting properly in it's slot. There also appears to be a gap between the CD and the metal disk shaped object it is supposed to sit on. I am really at my wits end, so any help will be appreciated.

From what I have read it looks as if you have notpressed down gentlyon the centre of the CD when you have loaded it - there should be no gap at all when you have placed it properly with the spindle at the centre. Good Luck!

Re: Beosound 4 CD spinning but not loading
King, Thanks so much for your prompt reply. I did go back downstairs and try pressing down on the centre of the CD. However, it just seems to not do anything. It sort of goes lower when I press it but comes right back to it's original position when I release it. Also, one more thing I noticed, is when I tap on the bottom edge of the CD, it just slides out of the system. That's how oddly positioned it is. I am certain I am placing the CD in wrong, but I cannot figure out how to load it in properly. Thanks again.

Re: Beosound 4 CD spinning but not loading
Another thing I noticed, is when I load a CD and press the CD button, the glass only comes down part way. When it reaches approximately the spot where the bottom of the CD is, it goes back up again and asks me to load a CD. It's almost as though the CD is preventing the glass door from coming down full. (That is assuming the glass door is required to come down fully)

You're going to need to talk to your dealer unfortunately! Anything we can do here would just void your warranty.

Re: Beosound 4 CD spinning but not loading
Martijn (Esther's husband) here.. The problem is, Alex, that the dealer we bought it from, two days ago, is 4000 miles away. We brought the unit to India, and the nearest dealer is still 1000 miles away. Sending it away to get it serviced/replaced is the last option, but if someone had a similar experience and could help, we would really appreciate it.

Perhaps you can attach a picture of the problem, so we can see the gap that were mentioned

Re: Beosound 4 CD spinning but not loading
Christian, I tried to take pictures:
Here the CD is placed on the spindel, but appears too high (almost 5 mm).
We press CD, the glass slides down upto the panel, as shown above. The CD spins a few times, and then the glass slides back up and the 'Load CD' message appears again.
I hope anyone has ideas that can help us. If the CD is supposed to float so high, the problem may be with a dirty lens / condensation due to temperature change and humidity I imagine. But right now, the loading of the CD doesn't feel right, and we hope it's something mechanical that we can fix.

Re: Beosound 4 CD spinning but not loading
Thanks. It finally started playing a CD this morning. But then started skipping and refused any CD again after that. So mechanically it seems okay, maybe the humidity here (>95%) is causing a problem? Other CD/DVD players always worked, but those were locally purchased so maybe adjusted to tropical conditions. Should we try and clean the lens? How?

Re: Beosound 4 CD spinning but not loading
I have had a BS4 for a long while now and while the photos are vague - this all looks correct with the position the CD is in, your machine sounds like it's faulty, contact your dealer. If you want to check the laser, careful and very gently wipe the laser lens with a cotton cue tip... I've just opened and taken a CD out of my machine and looked, you can see the laser and access it quite easily with a clean cue tip, just be very very gentle p.s THAT'S A GREAT CD I'm a huge mike oldfield fan

Re: Beosound 4 CD spinning but not loading
Thanks Dave. We spoke with a dealer in Chennai, which is closest to us, and they recommend bringing it over, and they will fix it. We will probably do so around Christmas, when we plan to be in the area. Meanwhile we will enjoy music from the card and external input. Which would probably be how we would use the system anyhow. But of course, playing classic CDs (such as the one in the player, sharp of you to notice!) is one of the charms of the unit, and it has to work. I am still hoping it may start to work after a day or so, when it is settled to the climate here.

I agree! Crises is a great album. (My favorites are: Crises, Tubular Bells II, Guitars and Light & Shade)

I haven't heard Guitars... Tubular bells III is by far my favourite, Far above the clouds sounds A M A Z I N G. Highly recommend on a B&o stereo
