Hello everybody,

I have a Beogram 8002 that wasn't working and I have changed the old capacitors with new ones and the Beogram is alive now. The arms move into position, the needle gets on the record but for some reason I can't hear sound through the Beomaster 8000. When I turn up the volume really high I can hear very faint music from the record. I have checked the wires on the small PCB at the Din where the phono cable plugs in. I also checked the phono cable by connecting it to the Beocord and it works fine. I also checked the input on the Beomaster and is active. Does anyone have an ideea of what might be wrong? Thanks for your help.

Sounds like the muting circuit is not switching out. It sounds like you are capable electronically so I would trace the signal through there. The manual is on site for the circuit diagram.

and thanks for your answer. I have reopened the Beogram and checked the little circuit board and the left channel wire was broken. I have resoldered all those wires to the board and reassembled the player. The relay is clicking and I can hear sound. The problem is that the sound is weak and has a vail of noise over it. On the little muting board there is no capacitor I can change, just resistances. Do you think it could be on of those?

just to continue with my Beogram 8002 problem with the sound: after some months I have just bought a Beogram RX the other day and tested it with my MMC 1 cartrige and still there is almost no sound coming out of this record player either. This is making me think that unless both Beograms have a problem (which is unlikely) the problem is with the cartridge.

Now my question is: Can the cartridge be faulty? Has anyone experience something like this before?

When i put my ear close to the record surface I can hear the music being reproduced correctly by the needle, but there is no sound being transmited to the amplifier. I also tried to mount the cartridge on a Technics turntable and it didn't work there either (there was just a terrible hum).

Any ideas are much appreciated. Thank you.

In your Beogram, apart from the muting relay, there are no electronics in the signal path so any sound related problem will have to be with the cartridge, the muting relay, leads and plugs.

When un-muted (playing with the arm down), you should be able to check the continuity directly from the tonearm cartridge socket pins to the DIN connector.

When muted, both signal outputs are grounded. The relay mutes when not powered.

What amplifier are you using ?
