Beosound 9000 option problem / Beolab 5 don't turn on

So just bought a Beosound 9000 from my dealer.

    It's an ex demo unit.

It doesn't respond to my Beolink 5000 remote. And when I put it on manually, it doesn't activate the Beolab 5's.

They are connected via the SPDIF.

    Re: Beosound 9000 confusion

When I press the loudness button for example, the display on the Beospund 9000 says: TV operated!

Ironically I don't have a beo4 right now, can I change this via my beolink 5000 or someway via the controls on the Beosound 9000?

    :(

You have to change the BS9000 from Option 0 to Option 2. Sorry, I don't know if you can do it with the Beolink 5000 remote.

One problem might be that my Beolink 5000 is now in two way mode, and I read that I should press menu and be able to choose, but it does not seem to work...

OK, so I think I got the system setup. Had to change the Beolink 5000 to one way. BTW with the mk2 version you have to hold down the power button until it says "system standby" and then press "shift" and then "menu" that's how you get into the terminal setup.

However I have one more question. Do I need both powerlink and digital cables connected? Because the lab's aren't turning on with just the digital cable connected....

    Re: Beosound 9000 confusion

As far as I know, you only need digital cables. If the labs don't turn on, maybe it's because the BS9000 is on Option 0, and it doesn't send signal to the labs, because they have to be connected to the BV.

It's possible I'm wrong. My BS9000 is Mk1 and doesn't have digital outputs.

You need 8/8 PowerLink as well as the digital connection.

    Now there was my problem!

Funny enough the Lab 5 manual don't say that. It only says you can also connect them with a digital cable.

Do the lab 5's know automatically when there's a digital signal available?

Yes, they switch over to it when it's available I believe. In this case, the volume controlling is handled by the BeoLab 5s which receive the volume information down the 8/8 PowerLink.

    Can I check this somehow?

If you unplug the spdif while playing a CD you will notice a short interruption in sound and it will switch over to Powerlink sound.

    Be careful with volume.
