Hi introduction and newbie question on beovox 1200

Hi my name is Andy and I have just joined. I am 40 and live in Adeliade in South Australia.  I am a bit of a collector of speakers and audio gear as a bit of a hobby and have managed to obtain some intersteing gear.

I have a beogram 1200 - working order but needs a bit of love and attention. A beocentre (need to check model) but its in very bad condition and just aquired soem beovox 1200.

The Beovox 1200 are in great condition overall but I took the front grill of yesterday to have a bit of a look and strangely they are a three way.

Looking at the specs for these they where released as a 2 way.

It seems to have been a modification but looks quite orginal. The extra driver is a small tweeter. It looks the same as the large drivers (ie same magnet style just a minuture version).

Is there any chance this was a "factory" modification or a diffreent version of the 1200 or some test version.

I will post some picture when I get home.

If anyone can provide any detail that might help clarify the diffrence from the stated 2 way specs for the 1200 versus the 3 way I have it would be appreciated.

Hi just and update to this the speakers have the following info on the back - series 6235 serial No 78280

Hi Andy, and welcome to Beoworld !

There are at least two versions of Beovox and I believe even three and there are both 2-way and 3-way versions.

I dont' have the specs at hand, probably 20W max power but they are wonderful sounding speakers, especially the 3-way version(s).

Thanks for the quick advice Martin greatly appreciated. Yes I have been surprised at just how good they sound for a 1971 and with the "rubber" surrounds on the woofer - very ahead of their time and put a lot of high priced small bookshelf styled speakers of today's vintage to shame.

Only got these last Friday and have spent the whole weekend enjoying them and ignoring my floorstanders.

I will post some pictures just for interest when I get home.

    Cheers Andy

Hi Andy, and welcome to Beoworld! Smile

Looking at the specs given on Beoworld, it does state that type 6235 has three drivers, so it is probably not a modification after all.
    Looking forward to your pictures.

Sorry about this but is their a guide to show you how to post pictures - I have them on my PC (not hosted). Can I post to the site - i did check the FAQ but could not see anything on posting pictures specifically. Do I need to get permission from a moderator.

    Cheers,

No. When you are writing a post there are 4 tabs above where you are writing: Compose, Options, Related and Preview. Click on Options and then on the box shown with Add/Update below File Attachments and it will bring up a window allowing you to specify a file on your computer. Don't make the picture too big! Less than 200kb is preferable!!

    Hey Andy,

That's a funny coincidence, just signed up to ask a question on my beomaster 1200. Have the matching beovox 1200 speakers too, they're great! Was a good buy, congratulations! ;)

    Hey Andy,

I just came up qith a question: I wonder if my beovox speakers are three way or two way... the sticker with the serial number is partly torn off so I can't read it anymore...

What do your speakers look like? like these? http://www.beocentral.com/products/bvox1200-2 (those are my speakers)

Or  like the ones on the first picture, with the logo on the underside of the grille: http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=435

I'm really curious, and I can't open them up, there's no screw or anything...

Hope you post your pictures soon!

You can usually see the "insides" of speakers if you take a flashlight and put it right against the cloth. Should be enough if you only want to count the drivers Smile

Edit: I just realized these are one of the old type speakers with a metal/cloth grille, they might not be see-through. Anyway, if they are like my Beovox 2200's, the grilles just pull out - they have kind of plugs that go into holes in the speaker front. They can be really tight, though, so try not to nick the wood if you have to pry with something...
