    Beolab 1 & Beolab 2 versus Beolab 9 -- Advice Please

    Hi,

Last year I bought a pre-owned Beovision 5 and a pair of Beolab 1s from Lee. The Beovision 5 is a fantastic TV

but I find the sound of the Beolab 1's bass slightly lacking. At level 50 and above they seem to boom a lot rather than have a nice, deep bass sound. Not easy to explain but hopefully you will know what I mean.

So here is my dilemma, should I get a Beolab 2 to make up for the lack of bass or should I sell my Beolab 1s and put the money I would have spent on a Beolab 2 towards the new Beolab 9s. In other words, which do you think is the best set up? Beolab 1 & 2 or Beolab 9s.

Any comments or opinions would be much appreciated.

    Regarding sound, one word... BeoLab9.

They are capable of reproducing incredible sound to behold for their size. However BL1 are undeniably gorgeous, and getting a BL2 to extend the bass reproduction will save you money and in my opinion, will look uber refined compared to a pair of BL9.

The question really is, looks or sound? I'd be torn if i was in your position. Two very different setups for very different tastes.

Speaker advice is always difficult to give, as personal taste is very important and even more different in this decision. Ask your dealer to come to yours with a BL2 and a pair of BL9, that's the only way you can really compare them. I would do so.

We have had Beolab 1s for a few years connected to an Avant with a Velodyne subwoofer. As good as the sound was, the improvement was tremendous when we recently brought a pair of Beolab 9s home to try. After comparing the two setups the 9s stayed. The Beolab 1s have now replaced a pair of 6000s as the rear speakers in a surround setup. This may sound strange to use 1s as rears but they are fantastic in that capacity. Their height puts the rear sound up much higher, where it should be.

    Beovision 7-55 with Beolab 7-4, 9s and 4000s

    Beovision 10-40 with Beolab 1s and 6000s

    Beosound 1, 5, 2000, and 3000

When set up correctly, they sound great. When set up incorrectly, the high-end and bass can take over a bit and mask the mids.

Overall though, a much better speaker than the BeoLab 1, and better low-end performance than a BeoLab 2. Much smaller too! I'd let your ears be the judges though, making sure the speakers are set up as they should be in your room.
