Beocord 3500 humming, running slow, worn't rewind

    Hi There

I just bought a beocord 3500, but it is not in the best condition. When turning it on it humms quite a bit, will not always play and is rewinding the tape very slowly. That sounds like new belts to me, but why is it humming? The motor-door works fine, thankfully. The glas-panel seems a bit loose, but not like it is coming off yet. Should I take it off and put some new carpet-tape on it, or just wait and see?

Dillen, can you supply belts for the beocord 3500? Would this solve my problem?

    Hi!
I have a Beocord 3500, too. I got it from eBay as non-working but in mint condition - it turned out to be just a matter of belts. They were all loose and there was no tape functions. The lid-motor-belt was ok, as yours.

I bought the belt-kit from Dillen and it came with great instructions (you will need a small torx-screwdriver). After new belts it worked perfectly and still works. If you mean it's mechanically humming, it might be that the motor is running as it's trying to move the tape-head-section.

The glass is better to take off and get a new tape. If you take the deck apart you might just forget the glass and it could drop and get broken. Better to be sure!

Re: Beocord 3500 humming, running slow, worn't rewind

    Hi

I think I'll order a set of belts from Dillen and see if that solves the problem, it probably will. Anyway, I can live with the motor beeing noisy. I have changed the belts on a beocord 5000 (1980'ies version) with instructions from Dillen, they are wery good. What kind of tape should i use? is it easy to remove the glass-panel?

    thanks

Check the capstan motor when replacing the belts. If it's humming, open it carefully and put some oil on the bearings. If the transistor inside becomes hot, replace the caps inside (2x).

Additionally, clean the axles on the drive, the old grease becomes bad.

    ChrDH:

I used a thick double-sided tape. It might be a good idea to buy some thicker and some thinner tapes as it's like trial-error. If the tape is too thick, the glass will be too far off the contact-sensors and then the buttons won't work. When you have taken the glass off you will see how it works.

You can remove the whole glass with the plastic frame. When you look the BC from the front, about on the center there is a small hole with an arrow pointing to it (on the bottom cover). When you press there with a small screwdriver or something like that the top will be un-locked and you can slide the whole glasspanel with it's frame to the right (I think) and then lift it off. I think that there was a small connector and after that is deattached you can take the whole panel off.

If the glass won't come off the plastic frame I guess it's still tightly enough in place. Mine just dropped off (fortunately only to my desk without any damage). But DO REMEMBER that if you ever need to move the BC or if you consider placing it on the wall.

Thanks for all the instructions Smile

I'll get a kit from Dillen and see if that solves the problems, I think it will. I already got some double sided tape, so I'll see what I can do for the glass-panel. I don't think I'll wall mount it any time soon, but you never know.

I just bought a almost working Beocord 5000, type 4705 i think, but more on that in another thread.
