    MX4500

Hi all this is my first post.

I bought an MX4500 quite a few years ago and it has been gathering dust for some time. The backup battery seems to have failed. Can someone please tell me if a replacement is sourceable and is it an easy fix.

I also bought a motor stand off Ebay ( St5000) the bottom plate was for a smaller TV possibly a 21inch, however as I have the normal non motorised swivel base I was able to change the bottom plate over and everything lined up. I bolted  it all up put the TV back on, plugged in the din plug,  and it doesn't do an awful lot.

Unfortunately I don't have a user manually ( reading some of the threads there seems to be allsorts of modes you can access by holding down various keys).

I though possibly the motor problem might be linked to the backup battery, but I assume once the TV is powered up it won't really matter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Steve

P.S im now going  do a post about a faulty Beosytem 3300

    Re: MX4500

    Hi:

I asume the battery is easily replaceable. It will almost certainly be a standard button type (silver disc) battery. The issue you may have is that the battery might have coroded and thus made the terminals/surrounding board areas into a bit of a mess. However, it may just as easily have ran flat and remained solid.

Your best bet is to take the TV apart and look for the battery. When you have found it, pull it out and take it to Maplin or some place like that and see if they have a replacement. The battery will almost certainly have something to do with "memorising" stand positions as when you take it out of stand-by it should turn to where you programed it to go.

I don't understand the rest of your post re pinstruction manuals etc. I gather you know how to access the stand from the Beo4 list - stand - left - right? Other than that perhaps there is something wrong with the pin configuration on the stand plug. I think Joeyboygolf (Graham) will be the best person to ask about the stand as he knows lots about MX TVs.

    Thanks

Warning - keep the TV switched off for a couple of hours before attempting this to prevent risk of  shocking yourself. TVs carry very high voltages.

    Re: MX4500

The MX4500 never had the software to support the motorised stand ... however, if you source a broken MX5000 ... you could transfer this.

Again, if you are not competent with dealing with TVs, ask someone who is ... TVs have been known to kill.

    Re: MX4500

Graham neil, Thanks both for your advice, i'll pull the back off and have a look for the battery, i wasn't sure if it was a button type or soldered to the board. motor stand, that's a bummer, it has got a motor stand din socket on the back so wrongly thought it was supported.

My question re the instructions was, is there any sort of function that need to be pressed on the remote to activate  the stand motor but if its not supported then there's my answer.

The remote is a 1000 by the way.

    Cheers

    Re: MX4500

There are two memo batteries on this chassis, one for the upc,and tother for the text decoder. Both are soldered to the board, but easily replaced and readily available.

If your MX4500 has the nicam decoder installed, the motor stand wil also work. You can fit the later upc chip,it plugs in.This will also get the stand working.

    I may have spare chip.

    Hi Nick,

Thanks ever so much for the reply, i'll take the cover off and have a look tomorrow, If it has got the nicam board and you have a I.C. what would be brill. The funny thing is it doesn't loose channel memories, so is that another battery ?

Unfortunately I haven't got a manual for the T.V. but am I right in thinking it automatically turns to  face the remote, if thats the case has the infared receiver got some sort of prism setup ?

    Cheers

    Re: MX4500

Steve, you can steer the tv via the handset, then memorise the required position,so that when the set switches on it always returns to that setting. At switch off the set returns to its central datum point.

Before you try anything else, check the set up option. With the set in standby, press PICTURE 1 STORE,PICTURE 5 STORE.then try the stand operation again.

To operate the stand, press PICTURE then the left/right or up/down buttons (depending upon remote type!)to move the set.
