The latest interface doesn't really do much for me, although it is much more functional than the previous 'Front Row' one (which was very elegant, but not the most functional of designs).
The real winner for me is the fact that it now doubles up as an AirTunes station. The movie rentals are also brilliant, and very good quality indeed (not up to blu-ray standard, but getting there!).

I really love the new Apple TV. The interface is a little odd in a few places but overall is very good. I have already rented 2 movies which started playing after about 2 minutes. Airtunes was a surprise as well as Flickr. Is there a Beoworld flickr account?

very interesting article on the quality of atv downlaods - hd in partic. http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/apple-tv-20-vs-blu-ray-dvd-hd-cable-the-comparison/ seems they're not as good as blu ray but better than dvd and hd cable ! 720p isn't that bad , after all , most ps3 and 360 games are 720p and the machine just scales them up i think you should watch the movie in hd on atv and if you really want it permanently then buy the blu ray

720p/1080i is excellent quality, and all one needs unless you're running a projector. At any rate, there will never be enough bandwidth for proper 1080p on cable, already at 1080i it's being compressed in both video and audio, as also demonstrated by this test. Thanks for the link. I always get questions as to why I didn't buy Full-HD and people won't believe me when I say it's the best format for that size screen - this will give them something to think about. BTW - Apple will be making so much money selling content in this manner that it's going to be absolutely ridiculous.

The link discussing the merits of various formats does assume that each media type has been mastered to take maximum advanatage of the formats full capabilities. An assumption that must be made if the test is to be conducted, but not necessarily true - this is always a problem when comaring different content via different hardware. I think the conclusion that Apple TV is good to watch is fair - that conclusion could have been reached by watching it alone - the comparisons are ultimately just opinions.
Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

Just want to let everyone know that if they set the ATV to 1080P when connected to a BV7-40MK III or BS3 equipped system, there is a bug which causes white flashes down the bottom left hand-side of the screen. Best to set back to 720P. I think the problem may have been fixed by the 4.01 firmware update. Best, Mark.
