    Installation Charges

Can anyone please give me some idea of what they were charged for instalation of a BV 7 or BV 4 (wall mounted). I have just received a quote and quite frankly I am staggered.

    Re: Installation Charges

Installations completed by B&O dealers vary a lot depending on several factors including:-

    • How much you are spending on the products
    • If the dealer contracts out some of the installation.
    • If they have their own full time installation team

Also, where the product installation requires building/decorating work where they project manage it and have sub-contractors will always increases the costs. Remember, also that dealers are required to meet the same high standards of installation as with the product(s) they are installing.

Having said all that, it still needs to be fair and reasonable and if the installation only requires a wall mounting screen, then the cost will relate to 2-3 hours using two people. The typical daily rate charged per man would range between £500 - £700, but a lot of dealers will not charge for the initial basic installation where you have purchased product as part of the package.

You do not say what the value of the quote is, or what work in detail is to be undertaken, so it is difficult to provide a clear judgement.

Perhaps you can provide complete details of the quote without saying where you got the quote.

    Regards Keith....

    Keith,

I have sent you an email. On a different note do you know if all BV 7 and BV 4 TV's are the same throughout Europe. For example would a TV bought in Denmark be the same as one bought in the UK ?

SurpriseHuh? Hi Keith - I stand to be corrected here.....but that sounds like an awful lot to me.

Being up here in amongst the dark, satanic mills I do hear tales of various amounts charged, but charging a customer £700 for a days cabling/install work is off the scale, as far as I'm concerned.  Running ML, PL and terminating cables is a skilled job, and requires time and care to do it properly.  But it's not like being a qualified electrician, with certification and legal restraints - although we (and other dealers) often sub work out to an electrician where required.  We tend to leave this between the customer and the contractor to sort out, - although if some dealers, there will be VAT and other factors that will maybe bump up the cost to the client.

I have always resisted the urge to post about prices/offers etc here ( with one PX exception - soon spotted Embarrassed! ) and I wont start now, but suffice to say the prices you gave above are at least twice what a customer (in our area) would pay for a pre-wire or commissioning day.

Also, most "plonk and play" installs - ( ie, a hi-fi on a cabinet with adjacent speakers, or a bvis 7/8, on its stand and plugged into the wall/Sky box, would tend to be done FOC.

As a general rule here, its only when anything structural occurs, requiring a drill / hammer/ cable splicing etc, that additional chargeable time is billed, either hourly or at a flat daily rate.

I must emphasise that each dealer will have their own tariff and policy though - so buyers should know at the time of ordering.

    £700 a day - Surprise   I could have been a lawyer, or banker......but then, how would I sleep ???

    Re: Installation Charges

Let me be clear, I am not talking about "plonk and play" installs which I would always expect to be free of charge.

I am talking about professionally finished jobs which require drilling for very heavy wall hung displays, implementation of cable ducts as well as the wiring for a basic job, so if a wall hung display was to be mounted and associated cable ducts as well as the actual connections, then that's likely to take say half a day meaning in my view typically around £250 - £350 could be expected, but as you say, its down to each dealer and their pricing policy.

As when proposing to purchase any service the customer is advised to get more than one quote if they can.

    Regards Keith....

    Re: Installation Charges

My dealer charged $600 to deliver and set up a BV7. This included two men driving three hours our home and three hours back to the store. Our former dealer, however, would drive the three hours each way and deliver and set up for free, at least they did with the Beolab 1s we purchased from them, even though we paid only 60% of retail for them. They even offered free delivery on a small item, a Beosound 3000 when we purchased it, but that we just took home ourselves.

    Beovision 7-55 with Beolab 7-4, 9s and 4000s

    Beovision 10-40 with Beolab 1s and 6000s

    Beosound 1, 5, 2000, and 3000

I would say that even two relatively local dealer the price difference is at least twice. I have one quote for installing a bv6-26 with link on a wall over £600 + VAT!! MY local only 250 (I suppose I am a resonable regular) so do haggle and get different quotes

     my 2c.

    Re: Installation Charges

My local store charge by the hour at 47.00 or 250 for the day plus materials if its not plug and play.

They used to come out to look first but now they know my house so well its not needed!!

You often pay for what you get with installation but you also get ripped off too.

They are the only dealer I have come across who do not charge me for a call out fee which is great so I keep using them
