    Beomaster 6000 4ch

    Hi

The glasspanel (actually plastic) on the BM6000 4ch has some kind of coating to make it darker. On my unit this coating has started to come off. Does anybody know how to recoat this panel and with what. My first thought was the spray that boyracers use on their rear lights of the cars to make them darker. Any suggestions?

    /Fredrik

It's a kind of sun-film or anti-reflex coating. I don't know how to replace it but you can polish it to remove the rest and it won't look so bad.

    Thanx Martin

I'll try to remove the old coating by polishing it. There is a local company here that put sun-film on car windows - I think they can help me to find a suitale film and apply it without bubbles (i'm no good at that Sad). Think it's hard to use a spray to get an even layer. Film must be better. In worst case I can always remove the film.

i have had this same problem on a few poorly packed pieces where the packing tape had been laid across the coating. upon unpacking the tape removed the coating. bummer, but it revealed the flawless surface beneath and looked great! so, i simply grabbed my roll of clear packing tape and went to town. it took about 10 seconds to pull up the rest of the coating and it looks fantastic!

    Thanx Jeff

Great tip. I will try that, and maybe a little polishing afterwards.

I can see under the coating that the panel stays relatively dark so I might not need to put sun-film on it.

I've never seen a BM 6000 before other than behind a glass case at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. It's a gorgeous unit.

Are there any silkscreened letterings on the underside?

Is it possible to have a piece of tinted tempered glass custom cut and put in its place?

    Hi:

I've never played with these units before so it may not be applicable. In my experience with plastics, polishing always leaves very fine swirls no matter how you do it even if you use an acrylic polish like NOVUS.

You might want to try using a chemical like "Goo-Gone," which is a petroleum product sold here to remove crayon and old stickers. The hold film should just slide off after a light application. The stuff is safe on most plastics; I have yet to ruin any. To be sure, if you go this route, please test before use. It might save you lots of swirls and elbow grease.

    Never use acetone!

    Hi Derek

Tried to take a photo of the damage, but it was hard to see anything picture. Guess my camera isn't good att close distance or I'm a bad photographer (more the latter). Had the same problem with the close details of the beogram6002 thread about the hinges.

Yes it is a nice piece of machinery, heavy and packed with electronics and mechanics. I like the vol, bal, fader, bass and treble control - they are controlled by one motor only, they use small electromagnetic clutches to engage the right function.

Take a look at the inside - I took some pictures when i disassembled the unit

Good pictures! And very brave! The 6000 is one of the pieces I would not personally take apart! The Beocord 5000 is the other!

    Re: Beomaster 6000 4ch

Yes it's worth repairing. It sound really good although I haven't done much to it yet. I have just changed the larger caps, power supply (leaking) and the four output caps. New belts for the vol,bal etc indicators installed (I got them with it when I bought it Party!!!). Next I'm going to bring the final stages out and overhaul them with new caps and trimmers. It's rather compact in the poweramp area so I suspect that the 30+ year old electrolytics is out of spec due to the heat. Of course some lamps where out but they was easy to replace. One funny thing on these machines is that all connections are on the bottom of the unit. The heatsink takes up all the space in the back so there is no space left for the connections.

Btw does anyone know where to get battery for the commander?

The battery was discussed recently regarding the Beomaster 2400. Do a search and I'm sure it will come up.

My Beomaster 6000 has been sat in Garage for the last 3 weeks, waiting for me to try and work out why the bulbs for tone controls don't work. Maybe this weekend I will get round to it.Laughing

Aren't you going to get Tim Jarman to have a look at it? Or are you going to have a look yourself?

It's well beyond my capabilities! Might ask Tim some time, but the problem is getting the thing down to him, as he won't accept anything though the post. Fair enough really - and a lesson I learned when I recently sent an MMC2 attached to a Beogram 8002's tone arm, that was toasted by DHL >:(

OuchSad, I hate sending Beograms through the post. Recently sent one all the way to Russia. There was that much bubble wrap around it the box I had to use was huge. At least it got there in one piece though.
