    I give up - B&O 4002 TT - DIN pin-out query

Here's my quandry - buddy brings over his 4002 and asks me to attempt a fix so he can give it to his daughter (who wants to get into vinyl in a big way - good for her!)

The basic things are wrong - belts, tone arm won't drop, that kinda' stuff. I have all those fixed and it's running but the problem is this - he wants me to make this unit useable with a standard RCA inputs. I've tried all over town to find an adaptor but, since time is a bit of a concern, have given up. I've taken the DIN off and know what's in there for wiring. I've also scoured the internet to find out what the pin-outs are - to little or no avail.

All I've learned is that the wires I want "might" be the brown and red.

Could someone please, please, please let me know, beyond a shadow of doubt, which of the four wires I need to use to make the adaptation - if that's even possible.

Thank-you from the bottom of my desperate heart.

      jac

Hi Jac and welcome to the forumBig Smile

I think the 4002 is a Datalink socket with 7 pins

If so THIS might be a good place to look for colour codes
    Hope this helps

The 4002 has a 5 pin DIN plug. Just pulled mine apart but I only have a black and white one!  No brown!

There are 4 wires, left, right, common ground and chassis ground.

    Re: I give up - B&O 4002 TT - DIN pin-out query

    Andy,

Thank-you for the welcome. I'm sure I'll be here with more than a few questions about vintage B&O gear. I also have a "Beomaster 900" that I intend to refurb (gifted to me along with a set of BeoVox 2200 speakers).

In the interim, I pulled the DIN, a 5 pin, and mine has brown, red, yellow and blue wires along with a copper stranded ground wire and another stranded shield wire.

Two of the wires (yellow and brown) were broken off inside the DIN plug - which may or may not have been my fault during dissassembly (is that a word?)

The only info I found was that the red and brown may have been the "+" wires while the stranded copper would have been the common ground. The yellow and blue might have something to do with some sort of other control function.

Everything terminates inside the unit in a molded pin connector with the wiring, from left to right as viewed from the front of the table, yellow, blue, brown, red, ground.

I've terminated, since my initial post, the brown, red and ground with a standard RCA phono plug and "gave it a go" (so to speak). No output whatsoever. I cannot confirm the veracity of the cart, an "MMC 20CL", and it has been sitting for some time. If I have the wiring right and the cart is hooped I have no way of testing the unit - unless I can get another cart from the owner. He does have, if I'm not mistaken, another B&O table for his own use. And as soon as I can touch base with him (on vacation) I'll try that avenue as a last resort. I do hope to have the 'table ready to roll before his return but I'm going to draw the line at sourcing another cart for the 4002. I do this stuff for fun - not a living.

In the interim, I really do want the wiring confirmation before I do anything else.

Thanks to you and Peter for the initial start. Mucho appreciando

leap of faith here: might this have the cd4 module in it? (is there a cd4 / off switch on the lower right side?) i *believe* that may explain the different din wiring?

    (or less likely: a 4004 w/ the 4002 plate?)

Nope - no switches nowhere to be found. If I can, I'll attach a pic to this missive so you can see what I have (shoulda' thought of this in the first place)

I think I have it inserted properly - this may be a first (for me)

I'd try the other way - red - right, blue - left - copper - common ground - other shield - chassis earth. The other wires may not have been broken off at all! They may well not have been being used.

I'll do a picture of mine tomorrow for comparison. Too late for the light tonight!

    Re: I give up - B&O 4002 TT - DIN pin-out query

I appreciate the time and effort.

If I don't reply forthwith it might be because we're flying out on a bit of holiday early Sunday (back to the homestead to help Mom celebrate her 80th) so, as per usual, I've left all my packing and such until the last day.

We'll be back on 10 July so it might be until then before I get another go at it.

    Re: I give up - B&O 4002 TT - DIN pin-out query

One would think that I might have a signal from the red side now. But who knows?!?!? "blue" does make a bit more sense for the left given all the other cart hook-up wire I've seen.

I'll take a fling at that as soon as soon as time permits. Thanks!!!

    Peter,

I'm back from vacation and ready to take another run at the wiring quandry. Did you have an opportunity to take a pic?
