    Beolab 6000 comments

About 8 years ago we purchased a pair of 6000s which were used as fronts in a surround sound setup for a short time until replaced as by 1s and moved to the rears. When we purchased Beolab 9s the 1s were moved to the rears and the 6000s stored. In other words I have not listened to them for several years except as rears. Last night I reconnected them to the Masterlink system in place of the 4000s we had been using. I have read so many negative comments about the 6000s I did this with a little trepidation, but they look better as they will now have an Avant between them due to purchasing a new BV7 for the main room.

Anyway, I must say I am amazed at good they sound. I had really forgotten just how good they are. Even the amount of bass surpises me.

i am so glad you wrote that!

i was just thinking the same thing over the weekend. i think that with so many great speakers from b&o over the years that they have been pushed aside. i think that when correctly placed in a smaller locale (mine are about ~8 feet apart and about ~12 feet from the listening position) they not only look great, but sound great too.

are they bl5's or even 9's -no, but i think that at current values -they are a great buy second hand.

Ours are currently set up 8 feet apart also, and about 8 feet from the listening position. The sound is wonderful.

I enjoy mine as well, tho I doubt I would if I played a lot of hard rock.  They don't reproduce low bass well and if you need proof just play a Test CD or LP through them.  I've never auditioned them next to a pair of BL 8000's but if you look at the specs there's not much difference:

    Frequency Range:  55 - 20,000 Hz (6000)  52 - 20,000 Hz (8000)

Maximum Sound Pressure Level:  96 dB (6000)  99 dB (8000)

Yes, I noticed that, yet the 8000 is much preferred. Cabinet volume makes the difference?

Has there been any upgrading of the 6000 over the years?
