Broken hinge for cassette / control compartment on BC7700 or 7007

    Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has a solution to the broken hinge on a Beocenter 7700? It's the compartment with the cassette etc in. There is a small plastic insert that fits into the polishes Aluminuim 'lid' - the flanges have broken off! Is there any solution to this? I bought a beaten up 7700 from ebay but it has same damage!

Also if anyone needs any parts for these - ask away - I probably have them ;-)

    Hi

Do you mean the small plastic insert that holds the heat dissipation grill to the aluminium lid? If you are - I did like this:

I made a new insert from a steel sheet of 0.9mm thickness. I rounded it on a grinder and made the "conical" shape to fit in the grill. Then I bent it according to the shape of the original plastic part and welded a little steel rod on the other end of the part that fits in the aluminium lid. Did this on both sides and it has been there for 10 years now without problems. It's a little tricky though.

This part breaks on all Beocenters of the 5000 and 7000-range. The dampening grease hardens with age and the lid gets forced up and down until finally the hinge piece breaks. I may have a new original part in stock.

Todays tip; A tiny amount of contact cleaning agent sprayed down the hinge piece losens up the grease immediately, this will free the lids movement. Contact cleaner is also good for cleaning the extremely sticky grease off parts and fingers.
