    Problem with my MX5500

Recently I have been having some problems with my MX5500. When I try to watch a DVD I get a interference on the picture. At first I assumed it was the DVD player, I was wrong. So then I tried anothe Scart lead, still the same. Although by accident I pulled the Scart lead out from the STB, the picture was then perfect. It then occured to me that the problem only started after I went froma freeview box over to cable. However the picture from the STB is perfect. HAs anyone else come across a similar problem?

Sounds like interference from two many items connected to the televison. Have you tried turning the freeview/cable box off when turning the DVD on?

If this is the problem you mean that should cure it.

    Thanks

Even if the STB is in stand by it still causes interference. Don't think it is too many items as I only have the STB and DVD caonnected and there are two Scart sockets.

It sounds like an earth loop problem through the Cable STB.

Is your cable STB connected to the cable system via a Galvanic Isolator ?

I will answer your next question before you ask it.. What is a Galvanic Isolator ?

A Galvanic Isolator allows the cable signal to the STB without the associated ground link to avoid ground loops or other electrical potential differences, the Galvanic Isolator MUST always be used when you are connected to a cable system.

Keith the cable STB is setup just as it was installed. All I have done is move it from one Bedroom to another. What does a Galvanic Isolator look like?

    Craig,

To prove if the cable is causing the earth loop, I suggest you leave the SCART cable to the cable modem, but disconnect the cable to the cable company. If the DVD picture is good then you will need a Galvanic Isolator, if you still have the problem then the earth loop is being created somewhere else.

At this stage I suggest you just remove the cable from the cable STB

    Regards Keith....
