    What happened to CD4

What happened to Quadraphonic , CD4 & SQ , I have still got my Beo master 6000 from the mid 70's and I wondered why four channel sound died . Today with sound around 5.1 and the like why don't we see four channel music Cd's . Got to be a step up from Stereo or is there a system about I don't know about ?

DVD-A offered multi-channel audio.  Not very popular! The problem with CD4 is that it doesn't sound that great! When you listen to music, it normally comes from in front of you rather than dotting all around the room. Great for special effects, not so great for music.

Spring '73.  Freshman year in college.  "Dark Side of the Moon" in SQ surround.  That's all I remember.  Or was it "Space Oddity"?  I think that might have been part of the problem with Quadrophonic vinyl.  Ray

Personally I liked the elusion of sitting in the middle of an orchestra with different instruments from each corner , I still have some of the Cd4 & Sq Lp's , Neil Diamond and some instrumentals , best one was Latin Festival . One of the demo's in the shop was ' The Flying Scotsman ' but an hour of that is a bit much and sad , where's my Anorak ?

I do have a small collection of CD4 and SQ records of varying quality. If you would like them, I will happily send them to you. I'll have to see what I have! No trains though I am afraid!

That's very kind of you Peter but the last time I set it up the Cd4 light wouldn't stop on , as you probably know the BeoGram 6000 automatically detected a Cd4 record and a red indicator lights up . I have it boxed it up and doubt I will set it up again , don't know where I'd put it so as not to get grief from the wife  . Pity you haven't got any train lp's , whistles and steam jets and of course the highlight of the lp - pulling out of King's Cross .[:'(]
