    Beovision or third party plasma?

    Hi guys,

I'm looking for some advice and thought i would you guys. I love B&O, at the moment i have the current set up in my bedroom:

    Beovision MX7000

    DVD1

    V8000

    Beolab 8000's

    Beolab 2

    Beosound 9000

I've recently noticed that the picture produced on my MX7000 is not as good as it used to be and am thinking of buying a new television. I have looked at the current B&O range but have to admit that in my personal opinion most of the TV's seem overpriced. Now i can't decide between looking for a second hand beovision 3 or a plasma screen from a third party manufacturer.

I will use the set or watching mainly free view standard definition and DVD's. I can' decide which option is best and i don't know if i will be able to use my current set up with a third party plasma.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Hi Londonguy,

    Welcome to Beoworld.

Get a Beovision 3 32". Fantastic TV - brilliant picture & the best out there at the moment including ridiculously priced plasma's & LCD's. It's plenty big enough especially for a bedroom.

Technology still isn't there yet for flat panels. Save some money, get the look of a flat screen without the expense and enjoy.

I agree with the comments above. I recently bought a BV7-40 Mark III and in hindsight it was the wrong decision. It is a waste of money you are right. The BV3 would be fine. In fact anything second-hand would be fine but don't buy a new B&O TV at the moment. The Avant is a great set of course. If you choose this route take the RF 32 DVD.

Hi LondonGuy, and welcome to BeoWorld.

Simon and Steve have given you the best suggestion I think. The BeoVision 3 32 is a good looking TV, has a brilliant picture as I have seen for myself this weekend and is a perfect bedroom TV in my opinion. I have bought one for exactly this purpose. BeoVision 3s are also great value for money at the moment, even compared to non-B&O TVs.

However, if you really do want to stick to a slim TV, then I would consider the BeoVision 8 or the more lux BeoCenter 6. Both of these TVs produce a very impressive sound and look really good on their floor stand.

A plasma would be too much for me personally in a bedroom, but if you're okay to have a big TV in your bedroom, take a look at a BeoVision 5 as well.

There's lots of choice around, so let us know what your next move is. Yes - thumbs up

Re: Beovision or third party plasma?

Just realised you wanted a TV for the bedroom ... my post was aimed at a longe TV but nonetheless much remains the same. Avoid the 7-32 which could be used for a bedroom I guess and, well, I like the BV8 because of its styling but its going to depend whether you want style over picture quality so that's your decision to make. If you want style then its the BV8 or BV6 range, otherwise its a third-party plasma panel. If it comes down to LCD over Plasma then it has to be plasma every time. This is where B&O just don't deliver. They haven't got it right with any of their TV range, at least not in my book. They have LCD over plasma or they lack connectivity or they lack DVD drives or they lack HD ports. Third-party panels are going to offer you everything for a much more reasonable price. Good luck. It took me a year to choose my TV and after all that time I still got it wrong.

    Hi guys,

Thank you all for your help and advice and welcoming to the forum, i think your right, the Beovision 3 is the best option for me and the next logical step up for the bedroom. I have to admit i am a avid B&O fan but the recent beovision lack the luster for me that the avants and MX's held, especially as technology is rapidly changing.

Is there anything i should be aware of or look out for when purchasing this set second hand?

Also, does this set also have a motorised table stand like the MX that i could purchase seperatley?

Re: Beovision or third party plasma?

    Hi again LondonGuy,

No the BeoVision 3 does not have any type of motorised stand. From memory there were only two different B&O stands available for the BeoVision 3. One is the Cabinet 4068 which looks great standing on its own, but then looks a little odd with a big BeoVision 3 sitting on top of it. And the other stand is on wheels and also doesn't look very nice in my opinion. I can't remember the name of this stand unfortunately, but here is a link to a Cabinet 4068:

    http://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=749

I have my BeoVision 3 32 sitting on a large piece of furniture in the bedroom and it looks really good. The piece furniture is much wider than the TV, so that the TV doesn't become a dominant item in the room and so that it doesn't look any bigger than it really is.

When I bought my BeoVision 3, I had the opportunity to see it working before I bought it. I checked the quality of the picture, looked for any marks to the TV itself and removed the frame to check if there was any damage to the speakers. Last thing I took a look at were the connections at the back of the TV, just to check if there was any damage there.

I hope this helped. Keep us updated.

Re: Beovision or third party plasma?

    Welcome Londonguy,

I would certainly buy myself a Beovision 3 for your bedroom; the best money can buy [together with a avant RF that is] I have a beovison3 in our living-room and one in our bed-room.

Yes, there is a motorised "stand" for the beovision3; as Henry stated one on a stand with wheels [ I use this one in my bedroom so I can easily move it around if nessecary ] and a motorised plate to be attached under your Beovision3 and punt it on any piece of furniture you want, even a beautifull e.g. B&O 4068 cabinet or stand.

There is a big difference in picture between the version with or without the special AR screen {my BV3 in the living has a AR screen, the one in the bedroom does'nt] allthough you don't really need it in a bedroom, i'dd go for the one with the AR, check the speakers, for options DTS e.g. and the connections.

keep us posted will you ? good luck on your search...........

My mistake : what I meant is not a stand, but the motorised base. Embarrassed

    Hi Leon,

The motorised base that you speak off, would it fit under the beovision 3 stand allowing me to put the beovision 3 on a piece of normal furniture and control the motorised stand?

    Hi Londonguy,

Yes, this motorised base will fit under any BV3 [except for the first {8800} series wich has a different version] it's a simple plate with an electronic-motor attached to the BV3 by merely 4 screws and yes you can put it on any piece of furniture in the house and controle it with any B&O remote you like....:-) you can hardy see this motorised plate under the base of the BV3 [wich just grows 1 inch higher] I really like it and is easy to use. my bedroomversion sadly has no AR screen, na dolbymodule [not really needed in a bedroom I guess] and no motorised base on the wheelstand [which is a pity] I suppose I'll get one on e bay or so and this is again another and different motorplate/base from the first mentioned one.

Re: Beovision or third party plasma?

    Samsung LN-T4671.

Samsung produces their own panels so the technology is always going to be on top when it comes to panels.  Samsung was the first flat panel maker with true 120hz image interpolation (Sony licenses it from Samsung and only applies it in one axis).  The interpolation isn't at its finest yet, but the point is its there.  I really don't see how one can argue that flat panel technology hasn't reached its prime yet.  I think what hasn't reached its prime is the cutting edge technology being pushed even further now with flat panels, such as the 120hz interpolation and organic LED backlighting (which is why I didn't recommend the LN-T4681 to you, which uses organic LED backlighting).

edit: LN-T4071 if 46" is too big.

for your information its Sharp that make the best LCD panesl with a quality control that Samsung can only dream about.

It is true however that samsung stole many of the patents placed by Sharp in respect of LCD and they have been prevented from using these subject to court proceedings.

Im afraid that LCD is far from mature at present.

Re: Beovision or third party plasma?

Sorry 355f, I had forgotten about the initial JVC and Sharp 120hz panels.  I was focusing more on the difference between Samsung and Sony, the two panels that were constantly in debate in late 2007 as to which was the best 120hz panel on the market.  I haven't heard anyone argue before that panels like the sharp LC46D82U are actually better than the LN-t4671, but I understand that it's still a matter of preference.  I've never had any quality control issues with Samsung, or any panels I've bough from other manufacturers for what it's worth, so maybe I'm just lucky.  But wasn't Sharp the one with the banding issues on their panels though?

Good to hear from you as well. It's a 32" version.
