    Help for a BeoCenter 4600

I have recently aquired a BeoCenter 4600 and when pressing the 45 button to play a 45 record, the arm does not seem to move quite far enough onto the leader. This means that the needle doesnt quite pick up the leader and drops off the side of the record.

Also, the cartridge installed on it is the MMC 3000, and when looking at the relevant page on this site, it says that the MMC 20 should be used?

Can anyone shed any light? And, where can I get a new cartridge, as  the arm has dropped off the record leader a few times, so I think its probably broken!

    Ta

Re: Help for a BeoCenter 4600

Andy first welcome to Beoworld. Just had a look and the service manual for the Beocenter 4600 is on the site. You can download this if you are a Silver or Gold member. It does explain how to adjust the arm to solve the problem you are having. Seems quite easy to do as well so should be a simple fix. You are correct in saying your cartridge should be an MMC20S. Now the only place where you will be able to get a new replacement is from www.sound-smith.com . They are not cheap, but sound quality is better than the originals. However I may be able to help you as I have an MMC20E which will be a perfect fit and match the black finish of you tone arm. Drop me a PM if you are interested in the cartridge. Well worth sorting out the problems you have, used to own a 4600 myself. Only let it go due to lack of space and orders from the missus as I wanted some more B&O.

Re: Help for a BeoCenter 4600

    Hi Andy,

the MMC20* series of cartridges superceded the MMC*000 series but the important thing is the fittings are identical and can be swapped between any record deck/beocenter which accept either of these.

I agree 100% with Craig re: the soundsmith items.

Regarding the cuing problem. I believe there is a strange double cam mechanism (one for 33's & one for 45's) below the top plate where this can be adjusted - I could be wrong though as I haven't worked on one of these.

The Turntable section is a basically a Beogram1500. Infact the whole thing is a Beosystem 1500 in one unit.

Cheers Craig, in that case there are indeed 2 adjusters as I suspected.
