    Avant 28 VTR smoking

    I was listening to a CD yesterday on my Avant when smoke started pouring from the back of it. The room was filled with foul smelling acrid smoke, and I was torn between just pulling the plug, or pushing the damn thing off the fire escape!

    Post mortem revealed a class X capacitor in the VCR had ruptured, causing the smoke. This is contained in the metal box of the VCR power supply, so there was little danger of the cabinet catching alight. The room and the tv still reek of burning appliance.

     I'm pretty sure it wasn't a power surge, as nothing else on the same circuit was damaged (and there is a lot more sensitive equipment on that breaker).

     The TV is staying outside in disgrace until it has stopped stinking the house out.

     Thanks, BANG and olufsen!

    Oh, that guy. He's from an adult swim cartoon called Venture Brothers. You might like it Alex.

     Moved the Avant back inside today sans VCR module. I might get around to putting a media center in the bottom, I've wanted to do so for ages. Will post some pics if I get inspired!

    If you do not use the VCR much then I say go for it. Seems like the perfect excuse. We threw all of our videos out about 6 months ago. most were old and worn out anyway. My VX7000 sold for £20 on Ebay.

     sans = without?

    I do not speak French, so I may be incorrect!

    The VCR module is still too smelly to be brought inside, even after cleaning the residue off the power supply with isopropyl alcohol! Luckily I did not really use it.

    Sounds to me like it's crying out to have a BeoMedia/similar mounted in the bottom! Or alternatively you could fit it with a MacMini and BeoPort, and wire up 'front-row' based media centre. Leopard's FrontRow doesn't work with BeoPort at the moment I believe...

    Hi:

    I was thinking of doing the same with my avant. Will the BeoMedia just slot in or will I have to chop the case about?
