    Beovision (1994) NTSC/PAL switchable?

    Hi:

Firstly, many thanks to everyone who has offered me help and advice so quickly regarding the TV above, I am a very recent member of the forum and am very happy with the "community" feel of it all. It is good to know that the forum is not like an elitist club, which I am afraid, cannot be said of purveyors of this equipment on the High Street!

Can anyone tell me for certain whether a 94 avant would be NTSC/Pal switch able as I use an American Laserdisc player. Half of me is thinking that it would be because it is a high end piece of kit but then half of me says it won't be because it was probably unnecessary in 94.

    Thanks

    Graham

    Hi,

My 1990 Mx 5500 TV was both PAL and NTSC.  I now have a 1999 AVANT so I will just check that for you (with a US DVD player I got under my bed) and let you know.  It might help guess if your TV (1994) is likely to be NTSC too.  Reason I think it will be is that B&O only started to export TVs to USA after 1989, the MX 5000 being the first, I read on here somewhere.

My avant (1999) is NTSC, but I'm sure you could check on here to say for sure if you 1994 will be NTSC too

Actually the US Avant is very different to the EU model and the US MX5000 is also quite an oddball! However I don't think this is going to be a problem. The output of the LaserDisc machine will be the make or break! If you have component out then I don't think there will be a problem and S-VHS should be fine as well. Even composite will work but if it is RF, it could be tricky!

The AVANT does accept NTSC normally via the SCART in Europe.

Depending on the type of US product you are using you may need to use a cable which has the US plugs one and and SCART the other end.
