Problem with Airport Express & BL3

I have my BL3s connected to an Apple Airport Express and am streaming music from my iMac/itunes. However the volume is incredibly loud (these babys are powerful!), I cannot figure a way to attenuate the sound output. It ssems the only way is to turn the volume right down (and I mean right down ) in iTunes but this is still a bit too loud and there is virtually no fine control. It is not satisfactory. I live in a flat and cannot afford to have the volume too loud at certain times of day i.e. when my wife and/or neighbours are in.

The Beolabs are set up as the manual specifies with Line selected.

    Any thoughts?

Looks like you want a pair of these!. They work in between the Airport and the BeoLab 3s. You can always join multiple ones together to reduce the sound even further if you find one pair is not enough.

Re: Problem with Airport Express & BL3

I assume you have tried to fiddle with the preferences for AirTunes in:

Preferences > Advanced > General Tab > middle section which describes how iTunes handles sound through Airport.

I have BL3's connected to a BS9000 to which an AEXpress is connected through AUX input, and I have had no volume abnormalities.

Please note that my preferences are as follows (your results may vary):
    Streaming buffer size: Medium
CHECKED: look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes
UNCHECKED: Disable iTunes volume control for remote speakers
CHECKED: Allow iTunes control from remote speakers

    Hope this helps.

I read on the Apple discussion boards that you may have luck with adjusting the equalizer in iTunes, specifically, turning the preamp all the way down.  I think iTunes automatically turns the preamp on.  That did it for me.

    Your mileage may vary,
