PC image to a Boot camp

Well; i'm very keen on getting the new iMac 24"; but so far the reason why i haven't got one is due to the fact that i need to connect my work laptop to a screen when i work from home (1 screen/keybd  on 2 computers solution)

Anyhow - i've been pondering if there is a possible solution to load boot camp with an image of my existing ntbk (it must be a image to ensure all sw/settings are the same)......or to possible use VMware for some sort of virtualization etc....

As you can see; still in the early stages of planning; but would really like to understand how i can get this to work before investing the $3000 on a new iMac

Thoughts, solutions or links are appreciated

    Cheers
