Old BeoSystem 5000 terminal remote control availability & compatibility

    Hello there!

The 1980s BeoSystem 5000 installed in my new home has insufficient hand-held terminal remote controller devices and I wondered how easy it would be to obtain extras?  I see that there's an identical looking device for a BeoSystem 3000 on ebay at the moment and wondered if anybody knows whether the 3000 & 5000 remotes are compatible for the simple on/off/mute/select functions?

Hi CTunafish & welcome to beoworldSmile

No - the terminals 3000 & 5000 work on different frequencies and are therefore unable to control anything other than their dedicated systems. Terminal 5000's & MCP5000's do appear on ebay regularly though.

    Chris.

The use of metaphors should be avoided like the plague. They're like a red rag to a bull to me.

Not sure is the answer . I might be able to find out later this evening though as I have a code converter which works for at least the 5000. I'll see what it says about the 3000. Chris is probably correct though.

Chris, thanks very much indeed for the rapid & informed response. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the correct type. What an excellent resource this is!  Much appreciated.

I would definitely get at least one MCP5000 - they look the biz and I'm sure they control more functions than the Terminal 5000!

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

Different codes - Chris was right - of course! I have a special code converter which allows you to use a Beolink 1000 to control a variety of older types of equipment - Beomaster 6000/8000, Beocenter7000 etc and Beomaster 5000. All use different codes.
