BG 4002. Been in storage for 14yrs

Someone gave a me a Beogram 4002 14yrs ago which I never used as it did not have a cartridge. I of course turned it on and everything worked perfectly. Couldn't check the sound obviously. Now that I am taking out of its "hibernation" I am worried that after so many years that its lubrication etc might have dried up. Is there anything I should do? It does work but I don't want to start playing LP's and have it die on me because I didn't service it.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

P.s. Quite excited to get it going as LP's were long gone by the time I started buying music although my parents do have a huge stash of LP's.

If it works I don't see why you shouldn't just use it and enjoy it.
Usually for this model, inadequate lubrication doesn't end in catastrophy but merely malfunction until corrected.
I would keep an eye on it the first times though.
The first thing to fail is usually the tonearm lowering or failure to fine-track the record (tonearm and sensorarm far from being parallel).

Thanks Martin! Thats good to hear. I have a cartridge at the moment with a broken cantilever, put a really buggard up record to see if it does what its supposed and it does. Got out bid for a cartridge on Ebay in the last 10secs last night didn't have time to up my bid! Was highly annoyed! So its back to the drawing board for a cartridge, but in the meantime I will give the Beogram a good clean up. Hopefully will find a second hand cartridge soon.

    Thanks again!

I could be looking for a home for a rather nice MMC4000. Hardly used - the only fault was that the stylus guard fell off - I glued it back on! (Just checked and it has fallen off again!! Stuck it back on again!!) Interested?
