    BeoVision 3 and BeoVision Avant

    Dear all BeoWorlders,

The need for a new TV in the house is required. This will be for a modest sized bedroom. I have decided that I would either like to have a BeoVision 3 32 or a BeoVision Avant 32, and I am interested to hear your comments between these two B&O CRTs and to know which you would choose. Which speakers would you advise to pair up as Left and Right with the TV, if any?

Thanks in advance. Yes - thumbs up

hi henry, last year i bought a beovision 3 32 with 5.1 module 2nd hand from a b@o dealer and love it.my .set up consists of beolab 3 front 4000 rear and beolab 2. and beocentre 2 .        i think the 4000,s would be great as front speakers but you would proberly have to buy stands as well and for the same money u could buy a   pair of 6000's

I'd probably have the Beovision 3. It's smaller than the Avant but still has excellent picture and sound quality. It's also a lot cheaper than an Avant RF. You wouldn't have the build in DVD player of the Avant, but I'm not sure if this is of any importance to you. I think the sound is good enough for a modest sized bedroom and additional speakers are not absolutely necessary.

Well as a happy BV3-32 owner for the past 3 years, I know what I would choose. Plus they are absolute bargins now. As for speakers if it is a Bedroom TV I think the internal speakers will be more than good enough. No matter which one you choose, Avant or BV3-32.

As long as you get the 100Hz, Real Flat screen, it's actually the same screen technology on both. The BV3 is a chopped Avant, created because B&O customers requested a smaller television than the Avant.

Remember that the 28" BV3 is not the same thing at all! The 32" is a reboxed Avant with good speakers.

Yes, should have added that the "chopped, but same technology" was for the 32" only!

Thanks for your replies. Does this mean the picture of the BV3 28 is not as good as the BV3 32?

Henry, the BV3-28 is only 50hz. Also a lot of standard features on the 32 were optional on the 28. By the time you had paid the extra most people went for the 32. As the 32 is based on the Avant, the 28 is based on the Beovision 1.

Thanks for that Craig. I had planned to get the BV3 over the Avant due to its size, but I wanted to know if the picture of the Avant was better than the BV3. I'm now on the look out for a BV3 32 then. Smile

Final question, where exactly are the speakers on the BV3?

If you look at the fret which goes around the screen they are about way up on each side. Just a 4" Driver and a small Tweeter, although the sound is impressive for their size. My BS3000 plays through the internal speakers of my BV3-32. Plenty good enough for my 26' X 12' Lonuge.

Re: BeoVision 3 and BeoVision Avant

Well, just to give you a quick thumb up: the BV3 is probably a more suitable choice for a bedroom. Nice and, compared to Avant, ‘lighter’ and I would even say ‘less outdated’ design, too. I have had an Avant CTV 28” (100Hz) in my bedroom for some time now and based on the experience would add a bit to what others said:

    -          Even if the in-built dvd player (and motorized stand!) in an Avant would be great (I would now actually prefer this and not the CTV one - plus an additional dvd player I bought later), I find the Avant’s screen to sit just a bit too low for some bodily positions when in bed (can’t move the set further from the bed – and don’t like the option of placing an Avant on top of anything!)

    -          You might though still appreciate having an additional dvd player, too. Good with kids, but even if you don’t have any, the picture quality through the RF cable from sources in the main room is considerably worse. So if the tv is only used as a link tv you will be far from getting the best out of it.

Yes, and it's fun to take off the cover, stand back and turn it right up, quite shocking really Big Smile
