Beocom 6000 power cut deleted phone book.

Yesterday, we suffered a power cut, the power returning almost immediately.

Later, I went to make a call on my Beocom 6000 only to find the phone book empty!

Power cuts are not unusual here in Spain (expecially during rainfall, but not uniquely) however this is the first time this has affected the phone in this way.

I am assuming there no way to restore the numbers (?) and that I will have to enter them all again, but short of unplugging the phone when I anticipate a power cut (impossible really) or taking it off the charger unit, is there any other precaution I can take to perhaps prevent this happening again?

Would plugging in to a surge protector help? There are mixed views on whether they are effective.

My concern is that perhaps next time it will 'fry' the phone altogether.

    Thanks.

Hi Kokomo, just a guess but perhaps the battery in your 6000 lost its power while the mains power was down ?

Surge protectors are better than nothing, but I see a lot of appliances in continental europe using two pin plugs with no ground/earth and this can not help in power surges/lightening situations.

If you have dubious power delivery, buy an UPS (or several) and put your small IT/AV/communication kit behind them (skip stuff like CRT TVs, they need just too much power). Then they will continue to work over short power breaks as well. Any decent UPS will also include surge protection.

Surge protectors alone won't do a thing for brownouts, which can be just as dangerous for delicate equipment. Or at least cause their processing to crash and malfunction, losing data for example...
