Beomaster 4400 - A Total Refurbishment
Hello,
For some time I have wanted to get my old 4400 which I inherited from my grandparents up and running again. I handed it in to an old friend of my Father, a retired B&O tech. To make a long story short; something happened, and I can't get my 4400... But: My other granddad has a 4400, which I maybe am allowed to take over! I will replace all electrolytic capacitors, clean the switch mechanism and then adjust it to maximum performance. Shortly: I want to make a 32 year old radio function like it just had rolled off the factory
Armed with the trusty old service manual, a soldering iron and a bunch of patience, this is going to be great!
Pictures sure will come as the process gets along, hopefully nicely in these cold months.
By the way, any ideas on how to clean that push button mechanism and sliding pots properly?

Soren
Good luck - I'm looking forward to your pictures.
I now use DeOxit products - I finally found stuff that really works well.
Contact cleaner is DN5S-6N ; Pot/fader cleaner and lube is F5S-H6.
I'm not sure if they're even available outside the US. I have a friend buy them for me, and mail them.

No problem, but I don't have stock here!
I'm sure that if you ask on the North America BeoWorld forum, someone there will be happy to help!

Re: Beomaster 4400 - A Total Refurbishment
For reviving this thread:
I have some Philips contact cleaner in a spray can, standard stuff from the 80's. Can that be used to clean the faders/pots?
should i buy some "fader lube" for refreshing the faders? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Caig-Deoxit-Fader-Lube-Potentiometer-Cleaner-14g-/380180866806?pt=UK_Consumer_Professional_RL&hash=item58848ba6f6#ht_1750wt_970
As I have recieved my 4400 again, I will resume the process

Re: Beomaster 4400 - A Total Refurbishment
Soren in all honesty you might want to look at my 8000 thread. I did an experiment with contact cleaner and have come to the conclusion, like Martin that it should only be used for a temporary solution, or perhaps when it is un-economical or not possible to strip the potentiometer and clean manually!
Try it - use your cleaner on one and pull that plus another apart to compare and you will see!
*I have a picture somewhere I will have a dig later..
