    Beomaster 5000 front access flap

    Dear all,

Just a quick question concerning the front access flap on my Beomaster 5000 (1986):

When I press the front panel in on the left side to unlock the magnetic lock, should the flap 'clatter' open or should it slowly and silently glide open?
Just wondered. I've not had the unit long and I compared to my BeogramCD 3500 it's kind of clunky. I appreciate they're totally different components, but I'm curious to see if there's a spring or something missing from the panel on the Beomaster which is causing the 'clatter' as I open it.

It's a glorious amp though, with a sweet tuner. Nice and rich.

Slowly. When the flap opens, it pulls a cord that drives a sort of air brake (you should actually hear it whirring away rather silently). My guess is the cord has snapped.

    Glide...

There is a string/pulley system that controls the glide. The string has popped, or as in my case -the flange of the pulley cracked allowing the string to not pop -but fall off. A "one of those days" repair for me.

    Amazing!!

The string had simply slipped off the lower hub. Now it glides beautifully (and makes a cool 80s whirring sound).

As usual nothing but excellent results from the Beoworld forum!

That must've been one of the quickest fixes that involve tools! Laughing

Have fun! Yes - thumbs up

    Yes - thumbs up

...making me look bad as mine has sat like that for years! Embarrassed

I have had a plan though... as my flange is cracked -I am going to try and fix it with a nylon (or similar) washer bonded to the edge... one of these days! Laughing
