    BV8-32 and BL3

    Hi

I have just got a pair of white BL3 (second hand) and connected these to my BV8-32 in the kitchen. The BL3's are planned for my future purchase of a BS5 (I already got a BM5 in place).

My experience is that the music sound absolutely great if I combine the BL3 with the speaker in BV8 (Speaker3), where the BV8 have a kind of nice/natural and deep bass, where the BL3 have the clear and crisp sound in the higher frequencies. Plus the BL3 brings the stereo part more into the sound as they are placed a few meters away from the TV.

The combination works absolutely great, but it also showed how good the speaker in the BV8-32 really is. Problem if of course that the BV8-32 speaker can't produce the stereo sound for music that well, sound more mono-like.

I do consider keeping the BL3 connected to the TV instead of connect them to the BM5 when I get the BS5 later this year. And then use the TV as "speaker" when listen to Radio or CD. That was actually my dealers suggestion also if I would like to be able to use the BL3 for the TV in the future together with BS5.

I just wanted to share this info with you.

I had the same set-up as yours for more than a year (and then I added a Beolab 11)

Tastes in our family vary, most of the family are happy with the default operation which is all speakers are active ( BV8+BL3 (+BL11))

However I use the [SPEAKER] soft key on the Beo4 to switch between these modes:

1/ for just the news and programs like that I use [SPEAKER]+[1] = just the BV8s speaker

2/ for music (either TV programs, DVDs, or music played via LinkPlayer etc) I use [SPEAKER]+[2] = just the BL3s (and now the BL11 in a daisy chain)

3/ for movies I sometimes use [SPEAKER]+[2] or

    4/ if I want bass/special effects emphasis I will use [SPEAKER]+[3] (BV8, BL3, BL11) at high volumes

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

Elephant: WHat does Speaker 3 mean with an BV8-32? Is it, that stereo sound is comming out of BV8 + BL3? Or does the BV8 then act as a center speaker - how would this work without the DSS Module?

    Thanks.

The BV8's speaker is not true DSS, which is why I don't use the centre speaker for music and some movies.

But the BV8's speaker does add a different depth of sound from the BL11.  Which is why I just its extra *BOOM* for action movies.

I forget the term B&O use for how they process the sound when one has this 3 speaker configuration, but what they do give you is a tuning option which allows you to adjust the central speakers volume relative to the two outside speakers.  I have left my setting in the default position after some experiments.

I don't have my BL3s as wide apart as the original poster does ..... perhaps I should try that one day :)

I have never listened to the BL3 and BL11 combo, but I could imagine that it sound very good.

I wonder, how do you connect the BL11, there is only 1 powerlink on my BV8-32, and I use a Y cable to connect the BL3's. How does it work when connecting the BL11 also?

Take a single PowerLink cable from the BV8-32 to the BeoLab 11, then run two PL cables from the BL11 to each BL3.

( the BL11 has one input and two output PowerLink sockets)

Or use the Y-cable from one of the two output PL sockets.

I believe I have used both approaches and in fact have the Y cable set-up in the current set-up.

Both the BL11 and the BL2 work this way, that is you put them ahead to a daisy-chain of the other (L+R) speakers; the sub-woofers then filter out the low frequency sounds and only pass on the higher frequency sounds e.g. in the case of the BL2 above 120HZ are based down the PL cables to the more traditional speakers.
