Extra socket sprouting out the back of my BM7000 !

I've just noticed at the back of a BM 7000 I'm going to put on ebay, an extra socket......

It's on the end of about an inch and a half of cable that comes out of a gap just above the main bank of sockets. It looks like a 7 pin input socket. I don't know if it's a Heath Robinson job or it was actually made like that. I can't see any reference to it in the set up guide. The BM is working absolutely fine.

Anyone come across this before, and if so, what's it for ?

If someone could tell me how to put a photo onto a post I'll put one on

    Cheers

It is probably a socket for an external sensor. Some people prefer the 7000 system hidden in a cabinet (I know - don't ask me why!)  and this allows you to attach an external sensor.

Thanks Peter - Would it have been a dealer or a factory fit option ?

I know that sound a bit car-ish, but you know what I mean !

    Cheers

I have exactly the same on my BM6500 and I've been told that it is some kind of extra Phono input for non beograms, but I'm not realy sure about it.

How do you select it? There was an option to have a RIAA fitted to the 6500/7000 but the kits I saw slotted in the back rather than had an extra flying lead and replaced the original phono socket.

On closer inspection it's actually a 6 pin DIN with the 6th pin located in the middle of the socket. The pin pattern is in a sort of face shaped pattern (but only if your face is as ugly as mine!)

This make me suspect Peter has the correct theory !

    Cheers
