Link Room - Audio only - Setup suggestions

    Hi all,

Right now I am thinking of setting up my first link room and I am not sure what to do.

I am considering the BeoLab 3500 or some BeoLab 6000 and I am not sure how to setup the link itself. Either via cable or wireless.

My local BEO dealer suggests cable cause of the costs of the wireless but are there any other reasons why not considering wireless?

    Thank you in advance,

wireless can give you more flexibility in the future (changing rooms, changing houses, going outdoors for a BBQ!).

BUT wireless is very susceptible to its environment; so do you:

    1. have a microwave you use a lot
    2. DECT phones you use a lot
    3. electric motors that are in the "line of sight" from the wireless transmitter and the receiver(s)
    4. other wireless networks, including for example Apple TV and/or Airport Express

All of these were challenges for me to find the optimal position for my wireless transmitter to reach my receivers.

BTW I have both ML and wireless link rooms :)

    I think you should:

    • consider if the Apple Airtunes and Airplay technologies give you more flexibility
    • ask your dealer to LEND you the transmitter and receiver for a week to determine the optimal position -- he should thank you for this as it will save refunds and many problem diagnosis calls !!

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

Hi elephant has covered all the potential problems with wireless, it either works in your house or it does not. Hard wiring imo is the only way to go. I have no idea of the construction of your house but there is always a way.

I agree with cable, It can be more reliable and you can expand off it if need be. I have a few products linked around the house, and it works excellently! I also fear if any sound quality is lost in wireless??

    Hi all,

Thank you very much for your detailed answers.

It sounds like the wifi might be easy to disturb and as I do not know what comes in the future I assume that cable would be the better choice.

Nevertheless, for a BBQ outside in the garden wifi still might be an option. Beer
