John, I made exactly the same assumption and when I first visited him, I thought I was being greeted by his son!

I don't agree with him, mind you! An iPod withalossless file will sound better than a Walkman - no tape hiss for a start!
I'm currently re-ripping my entire CD collection in Lossless, and the difference it makes is really quite impressive - much more comfortable to listen to over (very) extended periods.
