    Having an odd ML problem....

    Hello everyone,

I'm not sure what happened, but my post never made it to the forum.  In any case, I'm having an odd ML problem and was wondering if anyone ever had a similar problem.   First, let me describe my system:

Room 1: US Beosystem 1 (set to option 2) and Beosound 9000 (set to option 0)

Room 2: Beolink Passive (set to option 6)

Room 3: US Beosystem 1 (set to option 6...I think) and a Beomedia 1.

All of the devices are connected using pre-terminated ML cables and an ML distribution block.  The system was set up several years ago and hasn't had any ML issues till now.  This past spring my Beomedia 1 stopped working and was repaired by my local B&O shop (power supply issue).  I've finally gotten around to reinstalling the Beomedia 1 in my system and noticed that when I plug the ML cable into the Beomedia 1 my Beolink Passive locks up and becomes unresponsive.  At first i suspected that it was an ML fault with the Beomedia 1, but the Beomedia 1 is fully operational via ML in both of my rooms that have Beosystem 1s when the Beolink Passive is locked up.  Also, as soon as I disconnect the ML cable from the Beomedia 1, the Beolink passive becomes response again.

I've tried powering everything off, but this did not fix the problem.  Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Beophile

Just an idea, if you can access the other end of the ML cable use a multi meter to check for contacts etc. It would at least eliminate the ML. Cables can and do go faulty for all sorts of reasons.

Your problem sounds like an earthing issue to me.

The shield of the Masterlink connector (the metal strip either side on the plug itself) is connected to the 3 screens within the Masterlink cable. If you look at either side of each Masterlink plug you should see lots of marks where it makes connection to the socket ground pins when plugged in, however sometimes you will find a plug without marks or very few where the connection is not fully made.

If any of your plugs have a high resistance ground connection on any of these plugs have no connection, then you will see lots of strange issues including the type of issue you have noted.

    Regards Keith....
