Just got a lot of three 'for spares' Beograms.

One was a disassembled 1800. Some new screws, some polish on the veneer, some lubrication to the mechanics and it works again  

I have some questions, though:

1. This thing doesn't have a return automatic, does it? At the end of a record it just lifts the arm and stops.

2. Anybody got a Service Manual for it? I think the tonearm needs some adjustments. Or is this identical to the 1200 arm?

3. I might need a preamplifier as I want to use it with my BM900. Does anyone around here have one he'd like to sell? This is the same as in Beogram 1200 (GF 4).

4. The aluminium has some corroded spots. Any suggestions on how to remove this?

1. This is normal. The tonearm does not return automatically after playing.
2. Yes but only in danish. The adjustments are very similar to those of the Beogram 1200.
3. These are rare. I am not sure if I have one.

1. Ok, just wanted to make sure there's nothing wrong here.

2. Figured it out using the 1200 manual. Everything working flawlessly now.

3. Just had a look at the circuit diagram…maybe I will simply build one myself. Rather simple design and cheap components, so why not...

4. That's what I feared...I just hoped there might be some way. It really doesn't look too pretty the way it is...

I've actually thought before that it would be quite easy to make a kit out of these preamps, perhaps even such that it would work in several types of turntables by just inserting a different edge of the PCB into the connector, or something... but I'm not sure if there's enough need, I guess the PCB production run would need to be a few dozen pieces before it makes any sense financially.

I think that's a great idea - I surely would be interested if you ever made a kit like that. But I guess you're right about the lack of interest...

Anyway, I just finished my preamp. It might look terrible - but it works fine and doesn't sound too bad either.

I think, I would have flipped the board over to get the solder pads on the solder side but I'm sure it will
work fine this way too.

Actually that is what I would have done, too.

Unfortunately I messed up directions while cutting the board. I couldn't just turn it around as then the gap would be in the place of a contact - thus I left it this way.
