    Old BV7-40 Mk2 a good alternative for Beosystem3?

    Hi all,

I have a dilemma. At the moment, I've got a 5.1 set up using a very old pre-loved Beosystem1, driving a pair of 9s and 6000s and a 7-4. I'm thinking sometime going forward, I'm going to need to upgrade the Beosystem1 (when it fails etc)...

All the time I've been thinking of a Beosystem3, which is very expensive and very hard to come by in the pre-owned market. Even when it comes by, I noticed that it is still quite expensive. I never thought about a Beosystem3-based B&O TV because I prefer a non-B&O TV which is sometimes more advanced (eg, 1" thick LED screens), and you get a much bigger screen for less money.

But yesterday suddenly I had the thought that it would work if I get an old Beosystem3-based B&O TV (such as a BV7-40 Mk2) and use it to drive the surround speakers, and on top of that, I could still have a large non-B&O screen (say I could have a 65" plasma panel next to the BV7 connected through the DVI/Projector out of the BV7). The reason is the BV7-40 Mk2 are easily available in the pre-owned market can be even cheaper than an old Beosystem3.

I only have a few concerns, hopefully you guys will be able to shed some light on for me :)

    1) What's missing from the Beosystem3 in the BV7 Mk2 compared to the standalone Beosystem3? Because for me, the main point is to be able to use 5.1 (and possibly 7.1 in the future), and obviously the capability to use the 2-zone speaker configuration (ie, you can configure which speakers to use as front and back, for 2 different zones, one for the BV7 and one for say a different panel on the perpendicular wall or something). Also it will need to take various sources like HDMI, AV etc, which I'm sure the BV7 does.

    2) Assuming BV7-40 support 2-zones, is it possible to configure it so that zone-1 (watching BV7) uses only 1 speaker, say a 7-2, and zone-2 (watching the external larger panel) uses my existing 5.1 speakers (9s, 6000s, 7-4), in effect I connect 6 speakers to the BV7? That way I don't have to worry about how to place the 9s so that it would suit the viewing position of both TVs.

    3) Can anybody think of any drawbacks to this configuration? I can tolerate having 2 TVs in my lounge, that's not going to distract me.

Has anyone done a similar config? I would love to hear your opinions!

Thank you in advance guys!! Much appreciated!

Sorry to inform you but you can only get the Beosystem 3 built in the tv from the MK3 Bv 7-40 Onwards! Which is a full 1080p Tv.

The mark 1 and 2 Bv7-40 is not.

Thanks Bv7Mk3 for clarifying the specs!! I could have guessed it's a bit of a wishful thinking on my part ;)

    Apologies for the silly question.

    Thanks again for your help!!

No worries and not a silly question, if you don't know!

Take a look at  a Bv 7-40 Mk3 and see what you think!

    Good luck.
