    Cartridge Wiring

Can anyone tell me what the pin configuration is at the rear of the MMC series cartridges is.  I have just purchased another project and the enamelled copper wiring to the cartridge is all damaged and needs replacing.  The deck is a BG2200 and the cartridge is a MMC20E, though I guess all the MMC series are probably the same.

I can see 5 strands of wire at the turntable end, 2 for each channel (the two earths are joined together), and the 5th wire is connected to chassis ground.  Does this connect anywhere at the cartridge end?

    Re: Cartridge Wiring

Looking at the rear of the cartridge & going left to right the signal paths are :-

    1. Ground Right

    2, Right

    3, Left

    4, Ground Left

The turntable ground/earth wire goes to the cartridge body via the slotted hole at the bottom which accepts the spring clip.

    Thanks Chris.

This now gives me another problem as I am missing the spring clip and the screw to hold it onto the arm.  I assume the clip is held in place by the same screw that holds the cartridge mount?  Has anyone got any going spare?

    Re: Cartridge Wiring

There are 2 types of spring clip used with these cartridge mountings. One is a flat piece of copper & the other is a copper wire bent into a "diamond" shaped hoop (for want of a better description). I'm sure it is possible to make one if you can find some sprung copper - if memory serves me correctly the wire type was the better method.

Ok, thanks, I'll have to improvise.  Presumably without it it may hum.
