Beocord 6000 part wanted... and other problems!

    Hello everyone,

I've just bought on eBay, for 2 pounds (!), a nice Beocord 6000 (IEC). It was supposedly dead, but it works thanks to a new motor fuse!
The belts are new it seems (although the previous owner left some black gunk around pulleys and flywheel, yuck), and everything works as it should.  The mechanism I find superb, compared to my other one-motor tape decks.
Even the display is faultless, and the heads show very little use. Condition is superb, apart from the odd chip on the woodwork.
I had a noise from the mechanism which came from part n°12135 (clutch) which is unfortunately cracked (the plastic around the bearing). Also, fast forward didn't work at all. I added a teflon washer between the idler and the bearing to calm down the rattling noise but the part is due for a change I guess. With the added washer, FF now works nicely (but not as fast as rewind), the "go" timer adjustment works perfectly.

Do you think the part is available?

    Thanks,

    Jacques

    Thanks for your time!

This is actually a (bad) copy from the service manual:

    Hello

I've had the same problem, on some units I removed the rubber ring and put into his groove just a bit of teflon tape and then remounted the rubber ring. Try to clear the other rubber weels and clean the 12135 metal axe.

Put attention, don't fit too much teflon or you have to adjust the play speed due the different perifeal speed.

If this doesn't solve the problem let me know and send here some photo, ok?

    ciao ciao

    Thanks Eugenio.

My real problem is that the bearing housing is actually cracked, almost broken all along, well beyond repair. I know about the teflon trick, but the rubber is fine on my unit. I just need a new part really !

    Hello everyone,

Sorry to call again... I know I'm being thick.

So nobody has the part then?Sad

    Merry Christmas to you all.

Patience, Jacques. I waited more than six months for the new CPU for my Beomaster 5000 to surface here, and at least that long to find a new CD module for my BC8000 on eBay.

This part you're looking for may just be something that nobody will have laying in a junk box - why would anyone remove it and keep it? You'll need to wait for a BC6000 to get junked and hit then, I suppose, or buy a complete BC6000 for parts...

    HOLD THAT THOUGHT! Laughing

    Jacques,

I happen to have a BC6000 that is sitting dormant. I used it to scavenge other parts from. The entire cassette mechanism is complete though! If you could give me ~24 hours, I will be happy to pull it apart and I should be able to provide whatever you need, so long as it is not broken also. I would like to try and keep the cosmetic shell intact for another project. Wink If all is OK, the cost is free.

Hope you get the part from Jaff Smile

    Update...

I pulled the BC out and looked down... it is a BC8000, so for the second time in as many weeks -I have screwed up listing what I had! Laughing

Anyway, that is the bad news!

The good news is that as far as I can tell from the manual, the parts are identical! (can anyone confirm?)

Also, from the Jarman's Beocentral... the 8000 was apparently assembled from the highest performing components of the 6000 family.

I did go ahead and open it up and partially extracted the entire assembly, flipped it over, and all appears intact and unbroken!

I will wait to hear before proceeding any further.

    Re: Beocord 6000 part wanted

    Hello Jeff, Mika & Co,

Thanks for your time and generosity!

Yes I can confirm the BC 6000 and 8000 cores are identical, nut for nut.

Even the 8002 shares the same mech, but has HX-PRO.

My BC 6000 sounds really great with Dolby B, very little hiss being audible, and treble being clear and sonorous.

So YES I am looking forward to your part, just hoping it's not noisy or broken like mine!

You can send me a PM for the details of course, when you have some spare time that is!

    Cheers,

    Jacques

    Jacques,

No big deal. How about if I send off the whole mechanism (complete) to you? It is not very big, maybe a little heavy. That way you can have spares for the future, or perhaps just plug and play, though it certainly needs belts.

I will PM/email you now for your address! Do not post anything personal here! Wink

Nice to see Beoworlders help eachother ! Yes - thumbs up

One note though; If you swap the whole mech. section, you will have to re-adjust practically all settings
    in the whole machine.
Levels, Bias etc. It will all be different with the new tapehead(s).

Not if done corretly, is isn't.  Laughing

You know, the lazy repairer will make it right the first time. Big Smile

Anyway, in case you absolutely have to replace the whole mechanical section, you can dismount
the tapeheads and let them follow the machine with the matching PCB boards rather than the mech. section.
That way you will "only" have to readjust the heads (a couple of screws), not the whole machine.

    Re: Beocord 6000 part wanted

    Hi everyone,

Well Jeff had found the part for me (many thanks again for bothering) but it seems to present the same problem as mine, that is a cracked bearing housing!

    A common fault then?

Indeed... unfortunately mine was broken identically to his. Per his request, here is a pic of mine. I am going to attempt a repair.

    Hey!

Good news on this front. After unsuccessfully rummaging thru my spares boxes... I sourced what I needed at the local hobby store.

As time permits, I will post what I believe will be a valid repair. Fingers crossed!

Oh dear! My hammer and chisel repairs don't quite compare to your laser and scalpel repairs! Laughing Be prepared to be bored!

1.) I have pinpointed the termini of both cracks w/ some red paint. The cracks are entirely thru the wall.

2.) With a No.2 pencil in the background for scale (not very good, as this was a pretty close focus -the part is smaller than it seems in the pic)... I used a jeweler's drill to create two crack propagation traps.

3.) Now for what I sourced at the hobby store... K&S Engineering brass tube (11/32 x .014) Stock #1152. Two pieces chopped at about 5 degrees. If this had not been cracked, this would not have fit! Because of the material expansion, this size ended up being a perfect press fit... so much so that I all I had to do was tap it home with a jeweler's hammer. There was no need to dress or tooth the material as it was really that tight and helped to close up the gap significantly!
