    Playstaion 3 to Beosystem 2

    Hi,

I have read a few Playstation related posts but could not find one which addresses my issue so any help would be greatly achieved.

I am trying to hook up my Playstaion 3 to my Beosystem 2. Because I use a Pioneer Plasma Screen Video connects straight to screen via component and I have connected my Playstaion 3 to the BS2 using the Optical Digital output  via a Coax converter to get sound.  The result is Great picture @ 1080i but no sound.

I have been successfuly using my BS2 with my DVD/HDD player using the VTape input and I believe I can hook up the PS3 to DVD/HDD if I buy a different cable for the PS3, but ideally I would like to pybass the DVD/HHD player altogether and connect straight to the BS2. This way I avoid using DVD/HDD player and another remote control during startup.

Can any one tell me if there is a way aorond this or is this a BeoSystem2 configeration issue which will need to be carried out by my B&O dealer using a B&O screen?

    Thanks in advance for help.

    Regards

    Peter

I have a PS3 connected to my Beosystem 3, and for me to get surround sound, i need to disable all the PCM 7.1/2 options and just leave the two channel options and DTS and DD5.1 checked, otherwise i dont get surround.

Try playing with the sound options on the PS3. The PS3 sends the highest possible sound quality to the Beosystem2, but both the BS2 and BS3 has troubles with some of the soundformats coming from PS3.

What sound input does the BS2 show it is getting from the PS3 ?

Hi, remember the top digi coax is assigned to DVD and the lower one to SAT.  Also remember that you need an analogue feed to the scart, assuming you are using a fully wired scart then this should not be a problem.

Instead of using V.TAPE use DVD on the V.TAPE or AV scart sockets and you will at least get stereo - use an optical to coaxial converter and use the top digi coaxial input. Should be straightforward.

     Good luck and merry Christmas

Many thanks for your reply, I could not see the PCM7.1/2 option to disconnect but I think you have confirmed the problem, which is I need to configure my BS2 to accept the Digital Coax cable input and there lies the issue.  My BS2 is not connected to my Pioneer plasma as this is not supported by the BS2 and therfore I will need to take the BS2 to my local B&O dealer to configure it for me.

Thank you for your help all the same.

I have a similar problem with my beosystem 3 / playstation 3. When played certain blu-ray's,  sometime i don't get any sound and sometime no picture. I know that the problem is not my ps3 because when i connect my ps3 directly to my sony pannel i get picture and 2 channel sound from the pannel speakers without any problem. I have a software 4.17 installed on bs3 and my dealer is going to update the software today. I am hoping this will fix the problem.

Does any one know the problem is due to PS3 / BS3 combination? or can i remedy this no picture/sound issue if i switch my ps3 to a samsung, panasonic bluray player?

     Thanks.

Yes. Do as i described, you need to setup the sound settings in your Playstation, you need to setup the sound using the "manual" mode, and deselect all the 7.1 PCM settings until you get sound.

Apparantly there is som multichannel PCM soundversions that the BS3 cannot understand. Try it out.

Re: Playstaion 3 to Beosystem 2

The sound problem lies within the combination Ps3 and BS3.

If you want the use the digital output (optical out) from the ps3, then you need a converter to digital coax.

If you have set the sound option in the ps3 to optical out, then all the produced music formats (stereo, dts, dd etc) goes through the optical.

But the bs2 handles only DD or DTS via the digital coax input! It won't respond to any other format, like stereo PCM 2ch.

So it's either using the analog output from the ps3 to the scart of the bs2, or using the optical ouput from the ps3 to the coax input from the bs2 and only having sound with games or movies.

Re: Playstaion 3 to Beosystem 2

Thank you for your advice and for now I will stick with using analog via the scart.

Out of curisoty I would like to try the optical route again (I have a converter to digital coax) and would like to know whether the BS2 need to be configured in any way or should it  automatically detect the signal?

I ask this as I use a Pioneer Plasma which is not connected to the BS2 in any way. I take the video signal from my DVD and PS3 straght to the Plasma.  Linked in this way the BS2 is used for sound processing and combining with the rest of my B&O system.  It means every thing is working fine but I am not able to use the BS2 for anything more than that as I can not control the BS2 beyond chosing input and volme as I cannot see any of the on screen menu.

Perhaps I should try agian to get the BS2 to connect up to my Pioneer Plasma that way I will be able to use the BS2 properly, any hints ther would be most welcome too

    Thank you for your help.

Re: Playstaion 3 to Beosystem 2

The BS2 senses automatically if there's any DD or DTS signal on the digital coax input.

The way I would do is:

-connect the DVD to the AV-input, which also responds to RGB videosignal and the digital out from the DVD to input 1.

    - connect the PS3 to the Decoderinput, which only responds to videocomposite (the standard ps3 cable provides only videocomposite and audio). The PS3 has a RCA to scart converter in the box. And the optical digital out goes from the PS3 via the converter to the input 2 from the BS2.

In both situations will the BS2 automatically switch to the digital signal when provided. If not, then the BS2 handles the analog signal.

It's a shame that the ps3 doesn't provide analog and optical audio at the same time. You have to change it every time in the ps3 when you want DD or DTS audio.
