Took a while, but I got my hands on this yesterday to add to my collection. Using it with some white CX50s with black frets in my office, with white Beocom 1000 and white MacBook all on the desk with the BS2 dock. Looks the business:

Big thanks to Andy P and Nigel W :)

Surprisingly good Peter :)
Very underrated I think - not heard too much comment about this amp on Beoworld before, despite its obvious good looks. Wonder why this is, given the lust shown for Beomaster 6000 Quads and, to a lesser extent, Beomaster 3400s???

Please excuse my ignorance, but exactly what model is this?
Looks amazingly timeless in design (as always with B&O)

At least I have been touting it ever since I got mine (two actually...) I guess it is just not too common, for every piece you see on sale there will be dozens of 1900's and similar receivers. Perhaps it looked too far out in the mid-70's, or the lack of matching other system components kept the sales low?
I love the design but it needs quite a bit of space to appear its best, it'll look sad if it gets cramped on a shelf... one of mine will probably be installed on the wall at the summer house.
John, from what I can see from the picture you may be missing the end stop on the preset cover slider, which prevents it from going too far in over the OFF button and possibly scratching it. Don't know what they were made of since I'm missing all of them! Glued in place apparently, probably with the same glue that keeps the buttons in place (rather poorly...).
@Hjort, it's this one.

Thanks guys. I'm really pleased with the amp, and it looks great in all white next to the Beocom and with the 'custom' CX50s :)
Mika - the stop is there, just that it's not glued in very well, so allows the preset cover to slide right over towards the Off button!

Go on John - show us a pic of the whole desk set-up!
Richard - does the bulb kit include the one for the curser? Someone has told me these are all but impossible to fix?
Cheers

No they aren't - the problem is getting the old bulb out of its hole. One of mine agreed to twist off, the other broke and I had to dig the remains out. And the specs for the bulb are curiously missing from the service manual. It's a T5 glass socket bulb, and partly by calculation and partly by trial I arrived to 14V / 80 mA, which was close enough... the lamp circuitry in this receiver was designed by someone with a massive hangover (or only just getting there), and the other lights will not work properly unless the dial bulb is correct.

I suppose that they are rather large and at the same time the 4000, 6000 and 1900 were also around. It was the midrange product and so was probably overshadowed by the 6000 and 3000/4000. In my view, I agree completely, very under-rated. Better sounding than the 6000 certainly.
Nothing really matches it either. The Beocord 2200 matches the 3400 much better so it was left a bit by itself.

Ok!
Here it is with my trusty old 12 inch PowerBook G4 Mac - one day I'll find something more portable than this machine...anyway, got my Airport Express in this room so I can stream music from iTunes straight to the Beomaster 2000. Also got the BS2 dock for show! My cat Victor is usually sat next to me when I type, and I had to clear him off for this shot :)

Nice one indeed ! Try connecting a pair of large speakers, you'll be surprised to hear what it can do ! BTW: Both the Beomaster 2000 and 3400 were available in white/aluminum, just not seen everyday. This BM2000 looks nice, also one of my favourites.
The BM2000/3400 lamp kit contains correct wattage lamps plus a couple of corrections to make for minor design flaws. The dial pointer lamp in the kit is of a smaller type that will fit into the emptied glass envelope of the original one since, as mentioned above, it's very difficult to get the original lamp out of the pointer. Twist its socket end until the end breaks off, pull out the old innards and fit the new lamp inside.
The original dial pointer lamp is white (or frosted) rather than clear to help diffuse the light. The above method will preserve this.

Hi Martin
I might swap my Beomaster 6000 Quad over with the Beomaster 2000 just to try it out with my MC120.2s.
You know I'm not technically orientated at all - could I change the pointer lamp if I got a lamp kit, or does it require a complex degree of dis-assembly to get to the lamp in the first place?

John,
If you can get into the Beomaster and handle a normal electronic size soldering iron, you can easily do the kit. Replacing the dial pointer lamp the above way is not very hard.

Thanks again guys :)
Been enjoying listening to it earlier this afternoon in between lectures. My girlfriend's office at work is now the lucky recipient of my trusty BM 900 + BV 1000s, so if she ever fancies listening to the radio at work, she now can as I had to clear the previous set up off the desk to make room for this beauty!

From me too! You have taken some very nice pics, here and elsewhere. I like your night shots with the long exposures! Career as a photog rather than MD???
BTW, nice new toy!

No skill on my part really, just the new 50mm lens we got for our D60. Makes everything easy. Plus the BM2000 is a real beauty :)
