    Beomedia 1 & Avant

Hi My first time on a forum, so please bear with me.

I have a late Avant DVD and have been trying to get a Beomedia 1 to work with it, and even adding the IR sensor neither my BEO4 or BEO5 work with it, even in PC mode on the BEO4 (can't work out how to configure the BEO5 that much!).  I get the menu on the screen through my SVHS cable but no movement within the menu apart from when I temporarily added a keyboard.

I have connected up the IR sensor as for a Beoport from a diagram I found on Beoworld but can't find one specific to the Beomedia and it didn't come with any wiring diagram.

    Any thoughts gratefully received.

    Thanks

    Keith

    Hi,

Congratulations on a wonderful product! I love my BM1 once I got it working (which took some effort).

Firstly, did you run setup via your keyboard (as described in the setup manual) to ensure that it knows your network and your television?
Secondly, I believe there is a SPDIF-cable running from the BM1 to the teve, but not sure whether that applies to the Avant.

Just out of curiosity - are you running the sound through the Avant as well?

    /Carl-Henrik

    Re: Beomedia 1 & Avant

The recommended setup for the Avant DVD is:

    1) Video: connect the S-video and/or the CVBS-output on the BM1 to the scart on the Avant

    2) Audio: connect the mini jack to the audio output on the BM1

    3) Connect the IR eye to IR socket (and power and ML). Remember to have the keyboard and mouse connected to the BM1 through the setup procedure.

On your Avant: Select <setup> or <options> and <connections> to select the correct AV-input used. You shoud select V.AUX (not PC, as it is not supported).  You shall now use V.AUX in the display of the Beo4.

    Setup of the BM1:

    1) Select BM1 by pressing V.AUX on the Beo4.

    2) Power up the BM1. Wait till the main menu of the BM1 is shown on the screen.

    3) Go to <configuration> by pressing <R> on the keyboard followed by <9>

    4) Make sure, under System Settings, that the command is V.AUX and that the correct option is given (VM option 1 or 2).

From now on you can use the Beo4 for most of the setup, and not the keyboard, if you wish. Exit System Settings by pressing <ESC> on the keyboard or <EXIT> on the Beo4.

    Re: Beomedia 1 & Avant

Wow, thanks guys, especially to Roger for such a comprehensive answer, and Milton78 for your encouragement that it's worth persisting!  And yes, I am trying to put it through my Avant & Beolab 9s and am awaiting a jack to two phono lead as I write...  I have currently got the power lead (naturally) plus ML plus an SVHS into the close up socket and was planning to plug the phono leads in there too, but from Roger's set up suggestions, this may not work and I may have to release a scart socket to allow for this?

The manual I have doesn't explain about setup (I bought it 'previously loved' and have been sent a pdf of a Getting Started manual which doesn't mention the keyboard at all - I just tried that in desperation having seen it was possible to attach one) so can either of you steer me towards a better manual too please?

    Thanks again

    Keith
