    Connect Sony RDR-HXD890 to BV8 and Beo5?

    Hello,

I hope you can help. I just bought a second hand BV 8-26, which as you know does not have DVB-T built in (grrr...), so I want to use my Sony RDR-HXD890 (hd dvd recorder with freeview). Now comes the problem: I would like to control the STB with my Beo 5 remote control! I have the configuration tool, but my Sony RDR-HXD890 is not on the list of supported STBs. The provious model is, so I have selected this one instead, have connected the STB to the BV8 via Scart and IR link. It is NOT working!

My very unhelpful B+O dealer says that the software of the BV8 needs upgrading (possible, as the Sony does not appear on the list of supported STbs in the BV8's conections menu) and charges GBP 150. I think this is a rip of so I thought I'd ask you guys here in the forum what you think the problem could be or if he's right...

The second problem I have is that whenever I use my Beo5 it now controls both my BS4 and the BV8 at the same time! Very annoying when you want to watch TV and the radio comes on at the same time! When I am in "radio" mode shouldn't it just control the radio and when I am in "TV" mode shouldn't it just control the telly?

I hope someone can help. The BV8 is such a great TV - especially the sound is impressive - so it is somewhat disappointing if you're not able to use it properly!

Thanks for your answers - much appreciated.

    E

Re: Connect Sony RDR-HXD890 to BV8 and Beo5?

    Welcome to Beoworld.

For your first problem I think you should make clear how you want to control your stb. There are two options:

1 - Beo5 control directly via IR. Beo5 will send third party codes - Beo5 must "see" the stb - you will need no puc - no control from linkrooms.

2- Beo5 sends Beo commands to BV8, the puc translates to 3rd party codes and sends via IR cable to stb. Beo4 control is also possible - control from linkrooms possible - you can "hide" the stb.

For your second problem I assume your BV8 and BS4 are linked. Anyway this might be an option problem. If your beolabs are connected to the BV8 set your system to A.OPT 0 and V.OPT 2 If you have no additional Beolabs connected to your BV8 set it to A.OPT 1 and V.OPT 1. You will find more information how to set options in your Beo4 manual.

Yes, GBP 150 for the puc upgrade is a lot of money....

Thank you very much for your reply Stefan.

If I understand correctly, then I only need the BV8 software (puc) update if I want a setup which you describe as "Option 2" - which of course I had wanted to go for! So I tried Option 1, unplugged the IR transmitter, pointed the Beo5 at the STB IR panel, but it is just not working!

I think I have tried everything now, maybe my Sony RDR-HXD890 is not supported after all?!?

For the second problem, I think I have found what you mean in the Beo5 config software (I do not have a Beo4) - I can set my components to:

    0 - No IR reception

1 - Two IR receivers in the same main room

2 - One IR receiver in the main room

So I tried to set both the BS4 and the BV8 - they are not linked - to Option 1 but the software will not let me do this. I have to create two zones within the same room to do this, but even then does the Beo5 control both components at the same time!

    What can I do???

    Thank you

    E

Did you configure your Beo5 to control the Sony stb? You will find a template for the Sony HXD870 on the Beo5 site:http://195.173.140.100/Beoworld/Beo5WebSite/Downloads.htm

"For the second problem, I think I have found what you mean in the Beo5 config software (I do not have a Beo4) - I can set my components to:

I`m thinking about Option 1, because this will let your audiosystem receive audiocommands , no video commands and vice versa.

Maybe in your configuration your system is masterlinked. So Beo5 "sees" it as an integrated AV system. If this is the case, "cut" the masterlink in your configuration - now A.OPT1 and V.OPT1 should be possible. Otherwise try to get a Beo4 do the option settings manually. A BL1000 would also work. Just press SOUND - 1 STORE, and PICTURE - 1 - STORE.

    Good luck

    Stefan
