Following the failure of my Serene docking station (see 'Highs & Lows' post and 'Wanted' post) I've been experimenting with the phone and dock. The phone will charge on its travel charger and makes the usual pinging sounds on connection and disconnection. There are no such sounds when placing on the docking station and the phone no longer charges on the dock. However, the phone screen still inverts when it's placed on the dock, and the phone also still automatically opens when receiving a text or call when on the dock. So these latter functions are somehow driven by the phone itself once a dock connection is made.
The odd thing about the dock is that when plugged into the mains the adapter plug still gets warm which would suggest to me that there is still power going to the dock although it's not then reaching the phone.
If I can't find a pre-owned replacement I'll probably have to buy new at B&O. The failed dock may yet have a second life with its power cable removed so that it becomes a freestanding non-charging stand.
