Analoque changeover/ Sky and sky plus

Currently have Avant with Sky plus and sometimes record two programmes at the same time. When this happens I can switch to analoque and watch something else. However, with the analoque signal being switched off shortly (early August), can I use my original Sky Box (in conjunction with the Sky+) to watch a different programme whilst the Sky+ records. Is this possible or will there be a conflict?

    Thanks, Aitch

A small and discrete freeview box might be neater (using your now surplus antenna cable).

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

Thanks for that. Hadn't thought to go that way, and as you say would be a little more discrete.

If I understand you correctly, you can do that with Sky+ anyhow, using one box? Often I'll be watching one TV programme, realise something more important is on another channel, decide to record the rest of the TV programme and will switch across to the other channel. So you can watch one channel and record another at the same time.

My understanding was to record two programmes simultaneously, while watching neither and be able to watch terrestrial TV (or other non-Sky+ TV source) at the same time.

Hmmm. Perhaps you can do this if you had Sky+ and the built-in DTV module and you watched that whilst Sky records. I don't know, I've never tried it (although I will do).

I don't know if the Sky HD box is capable of recording two HD programmes to the drive at the same time, due to the amount of data it would have to write to the drive, simultaneously.
