PC versus Mac - It's good to read a carefully weighted, balanced review for a change!

As a PC user, I can totally relate to it... especially the part about the Mac Monks and their preaching...Smile

    Puncher:

Just about sums up Windows v Mac. You can't escape Windows in the business community and you need it to send documents that are readable to others. (But Macs with OpenOffice are coming close to the universal machine).

Used to work for a company that fitted out the whole place with Dell's, then had a big IT department sorting out the endless problems.

Well, now sending this from the superslim aluminium keyboard of my bug free, Norton free, Symantics free, Windows free iMac...........................

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure. [W C Fields]

Tried to watch the video, but got sick at about 50 seconds into it...

Yeah, I totally understand what the guy is talking about. I'm just Mac-incompatible. This started about 20 years ago when I had to go through a programming course using those then new birdhouse Macs. I felt like my hands had just been amputated. And mind you, the comparison was not PCs - let alone Windows - but a Unix command prompt, or a VM/whatever mainframe steaming away in the dungeons, only making its presence known through a clunky synchronous terminal in front of you...

If the moderators release my previous post does it go back into the thread in the original order making subsequent messages look a bit odd?

    EDIT Yes, it apparently does!

Anyway as a long-term user of both Macs and PC's its worth noting that with Macs, apart from superior design you don't have to pay for that Norton/Symantics stuff every year. Somehow Norton takes over your PC with it's clever updates. And £50 per two years or whatever the fee is is easily more expensive than paying a few hundred extra for that superior Apple design in the first place!

@kawo; Very recognisable picture, looking at it now as well  Aside from the OS, it is quite clear which one is the preferable one [:)

Very funny, but the writer should really get a mac...

With Macs its just the same as B&O, there is "other stuff" with a slightly negative touch to it and "the good stuff" you give your last penny for and be happy with it.

I can walk through any electroics market over here in Germany and amuse myself of all that crappy plastic Audio & PC Apple/B&O Design ripoffs and walk back home with the comfortable feeling of "I love what I have and don't need that sh*t"

    Worth every Euro :-)

don't you mean ... get an iLife ?

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

The article is really too one sided for a serious journalist to write, thought the reaction doesn't surprise me.

tried to watch the video but dozed after 1 minute ....  Sleep Thought for a sec I was watching a bad cooking show...

On a recent, Intel-based Mac, you can run either Mac OS or Windows on the same machine using Boot Camp or Parallels. So, you can run Windows only applications on your Mac as needed. Therefore, that "war" is a non issue as you have the choice of the operating system.

Allow me to be devil's advocate but:

    or this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yX8yrOAjfKM

    no offense intended to anyone

Now - my idea of a nice party is streaming music from my Mac into my BeoLabs.  Either the visualizer will be on or a slideshow from iPhotos would be playing displaying photos of myself and guests in past activities.  But really, that would be putting on airs and displaying my toys rather than enjoying my friends.

I'm a Mac convert myself - after two PC crashes and an eternity of popups a few years ago.  IMO, PCs have a good place in a large work or corporate environment where there is a talented IT staff controlling the server/network and preventing bad things from happening.

Then there are folks who have integrated iTunes and Airports with BeoLabs as I have.  It seems like a pretty good marriage to me.  Macs and B&O products share one thing, and thats elegance.  I'm guilty of being a bit smug with either product.

It doesn't look like the author expressed a liking for either product one way or the other.  He was just being funny and clever which is what journalists seek to do.

OK, so the moderators have just emailed me to say that my message (first of my replies in this thread) has been approved and re-inserted. Well, I still can't see why it needed moderation (unless there was a typo that looked like an unacceptable word???)

Well Vikinger, i've just pored over your post and came up with no explanation as to why it was sent for moderation!  I will add that Telligent do write their programs to work best with Windows though...

No idea! It is usually a word or too many links. It is automated but requires a moderator to approve it before it is posted - the speed depends on who is around!!
