Using BEOsystem 5000 MCLs with BEOcenter 9000

This is my first post here, so I apologize if it's in the wrong forum but am looking for some help:

Previously, I had a multi-room house audio system connected to my Beosystem 5000, with speakers and master control links (MCLs) in each room. This allowed me to use a Master control panel 5000 and terminal 5000 remotes in each room to change the volume, track, or source of the audio.

Now, I am using the Beocenter 9000 because my 5000 broke. I was wondering if it was possible to still use my existing MCLs and remotes to control the music from each room. Can I do this? Do I need any special equipment or adaptors?

I would really appreciate any comments, advice, tips, or concerns regarding my situation. Thanks!

Re: Using BEOsystem 5000 MCLs with BEOcenter 9000

Hi Barry, and a warm welcome to BeoWorld.
I can't see a problem as both the 5000 and the 9000 use Datalink for connection.
HERE is some info on Datalink and compatible products.
If I am wrong, someone will surely correct me shortly.

Sorry to be the one, but it won't work. The Beomaster 5000 used Master Control Link 82, the Beocenter 9000 uses Master Control Link 2. This was a later system and is the one used by all the later systems until Masterlink was introduced. the two are not readily compatible. The remotes are also different - the MCP and Terminal 5000 use unique codes where the BC9000 uses Beolink 1000 codes.

Datalink is the language used between components - the Beogram and Beomaster etc , not the code used in MCL.

A hundred million apologies Peter and Barry.
I have had 'proper' 'flu over the last few days and just came back today. Brain not fully functioning yet!

No problem.  Is there any to bridge the gap - e.g. is there a converter?

    Peter

    two other questions:

    1. is there any way to connect the B&O MCL's to the BEOcenter 9000 - e.g. a third party manufacturer or interface;  and

    2. is there an in-line power amplifier i can use to boost out-door speakers?

    thanks for the help.

There is supposed to be a modification that can be made to the MCL82 boxes which allow there use in a MCL2 system but this was told to me by a B&O service engineer who has long since retired and I have no futher details. It is probably easier just to get the MCL2 boxes!

On the in line power amplifier department, what you want is a pair of Beolab 200s - quite rare though (a pair just sold on eBay) but lots of power. They will accept both variable line of even amplified input so are ideal for what you want.

thanks - see my question regarding the conversion of my MCL82's to MCL2's but keep my existing IFR's in the wall so i don't have to rewire my house nor repaint my walls.
