    Skew CD X lid

I've aquired a CD X which works perfectly except for the lid that is slightly skew. It interferes with the lid opening and closing at times. The hinges are fine and I don't see any evidence of repairs to either of them. Is it possible to re-align the lid? I am presuming that it moved during shipping.

    Thanks

    Ben

    A photo would help Ben.

Could be one of a number of things but hopefully just an adjustment will do the job. There is a piece of black tape under the left hand side covering a hole which gives access to the adjustment screw (a large-ish white plastic HEX screw).

    Hi Chris

I will give that a try. I have to say that it is only slighty skew, but enough to sometimes catch on the glass panel. I will update once I've tried!!

    Thanks

    Re: Skew CD X lid

Just a thought before you go further. Is the lid actually fitted tight onto the hinges, it simply pushes on? If there is a gap on the tabs at the end of the hinges then it needs gently but firmly pushing home until the tabs at the hinge ends are properly in place.

If it is an adjustment problem with the left hand side you need to bear in mind that this could affect the CD playback. Turning this screw will also have an affect on the "lid closed" circuit as the whole of the left hand hinge assembly (where this switch is located) is moved. It also affects the vertical aspect of the lid so a bit of trial and error may be called for. The adjuster in question simply moves a cam assembly so you can keep going round in circles and eventually get back to the original start point. If only minor adjustment is needed then half to 1 full clockwise turn should do the trick.Wink

BTW - have you checked that the left hand hinge is OK? If the pivot point has cracked then this could also be causing the problem as any small defect there has a knock on affect which is amplified through this quite complex assembly.

    Chris.

    Re: Skew CD X lid

    Hi Chris

Well doing the adjustment has made a huge difference. From not opening at all when pressing the eject button, it now opens perfectly. The lid is still skew, that is, the one side sticks over ever so slightly. Most people wouldn't care but I would like it to be perfect but I don't think its going to be possible. I'm very happy though that i was able to get the lid to work. There are no cracks in any of the hinges. I think I will leave it as is, as I am worried that if I fiddle too much I might break one of the hinges.

    Thanks for your help!!

    Re: Skew CD X lid

    Hi Ben,

    Happy to help

Further adjustment won't risk breaking the hinge as it moves with the whole assembly so the actual stress on this part stays the same no matter how far you adjust it.
