case for an external hard drive

I've upgraded my iMac's hard drive and was left with the old 80GB one -  naked : ) Since a spare hard drive is always a practical thing to have lying around and i'm also planing on using it as a back-up drive, i will need a case. The problem is, i have yet to find a stylish one to put it in ( it's a standard 3.5 hard-drive ). So if anyone knows where i could get a really nice one ( B&O or Apple standards nice ), i would much appreciate it. Thanks.

Well, this is the best one I've seen. But it requires a bit of work, nicely explained how you go about, though:

    : )

thanks for the idea, but my moleskine contains a bit too much information and i like it too much to cut it like that. a great idea though. anyway, i was thinking more in terms of pre-made cases, those you can buy in a store. and the disc is a regular 3.5 one, so it wouldn't go inside the moleskine even if i wanted it to.

Re: case for an external hard drive

Difficult question. I was in the same position and spend some time looking for a small, adequate case, without sufficient success, i might add. Without looking for design i would first suggest going for a case with usb 2.0, firewire 400 and 800. This may be a little more expensive then usb or fw 400 only, but is very future proof and you can connect it to virtually every modern cpu without any hassle. Comes in handy on the road too.You can get a style similar to today´s mac with some cases of macpower, look for pleiades or taurus:http://www.macpower.com.tw/products/hdd3/or at miglia, dualdisk or media bank:http://www.miglia.com/products/storage/index.htmlAt least they are made of alu, but don´t expect a finish similar to apple´s g5/mp or even b&o. Other options would be the d2 series from lacie or hard drive pro from freecom, both also made of alu. But the freecoms got a nasty glossy black plastic front and back cover and some people are not this convinced of lacie´s built quality. And i don´t know, if these models are available case-only.Years ago there was a (danish-based!) company named googiedrives, who made some very cool cases and harddisks, but unfortunately they are now out of the market and i didn´t buy one of their fabulous products in time.Regards, beoberlin

I have sold dozens of these:

No issues, no failures, they look good, and they are aluminum.

Thank you for your suggestions, i really like the Pleiades S2 and the DualDisc, but as it seems the DualDisc already has a hard drive inside. I'll have a look if i can get the Pleiades here, though i doubt it. Still open for any other suggestions.

You probably didn't see the links to the enclosures then, in the article, such as the one above?

Well they've said they ship in US only. Which is a real shame, because those cases are really great looking. I guess the only choice here is to take a walk around some of the local computer stores and hope for the best.
