    Comments on BeoVision 1

    Hello,

Any experiences, good or bad on the tv mentioned above? I've been offered one for 350-400e. No idea on the hours but shoud be in fine working order in every way as used as a second tv. And if anything fails, tube for example, any chance for me to get spare parts even though it's a discontinued model?

I know the Avant would be the way to go, but not too many on sale here in finland. :)

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Olli,

I have this set in my bedroom linked to the avant, Its a fantastic set with a good picture and excellent sound!  I can highly recommend it!

As for any problems I should think you would a good few years of service out of it.

    hope that helps

    Thanks Nick

    Hi,

Beovision 1 is an extermely reliable television! Tubes never fail and picture and sound quality are up to the b&o standard.

There are different versions however, the first models came with the Beo-1 remote. The first BV1 had no PL connections, no STB possible so was rather basic. The Anti-Relfex glass screen was an option as the motorturn on the stand.

The later models with Beo4 were better equipped.

Check Beocentral.com for the difference in models!

    Good Luck

    BJ

    Hi:

I have this TV in my bedroom also and to be honest I would go as far as saying the sound is almost better than the sound produced by my 96 Avant. You realy should get the LS version or later  (link slave) as opposed to the basic model discussed above as even if you are not to link it to anything else, the basic model is supplied with a simplified remote control which is really quite useless - it does not have a number pad for example, which is really useful if you are going to use teletext.

The TV is also quite versatile as many mount options are available and readily purchasable off of eBay (at least in the UK). Also you can change the case colour by buying different colour jackets (also avalable off of eBay).

I have BC1 with every available option ( motorized stand, anti reflex screen, digital back ... ) on low floor stand, and I'm using it like main TV in my living room!

IMHO I must say this is the most beautiful CRT set from B&O, picture is stunting, sound even better....

    Highly recommended !

Yeah i'd go for the TV with the most options, i Have BC1 as a link system and it is lovely, but the sound is OK. The picture is what is fantastic. I upgraded from a BeoSound 1 and was dissapointed by the sound quality... but as an all in one soloution, it does everything and is totally loveable. I love it - flaws and all. insanely good value, go for it

    Re: Comments on BeoVision 1

Sound quality is good, but not on par with say, a BeoVision 3 or Avant, but I would still happily listen to music on one!

Picture quality is second to none on a screen of that size and they're very reliable too.

Shame there's nothing in the range to replace it - here around Bath they were very very successful - perfect for what people needed.

I would personally go for a BeoCenter 1.

Well I HATE my BeoVision 1 experience so far...

Bought a LS 2nd hand from a B&O Service Centre in Kingston, stored it for 4 months and then used it for 3 weeks and then it went all funny!*

Apparently its not the signal processor but they (the B&O Service Centre) can't seem to get it fixed - All crap.

The only other problem I have had was with a MX1500 that I had bought from Nobby. (note to self - make sure to drop back off for him to look at!)

Considering I have sorted 4 Avants and  7 MX's (all bought 2nd hand) for myself and friends without ANY problems I'm not been impressed by the BeoVision 1.

    * 3 green boxes at the top of the screen 'behind' lots of squiggly black and white lines.

I find that surprising! The BeoVision/Center 1 has been one of the most reliable BeoVisions to date from what I can tell...

I bought a second hand BV1 and I am extremly happy with it! One of my best B&O purchases ever, it is a fantastic link room TV. By far much more bang for he buck compared to a BV6 or BV8.

It is one of the last models with the ML conector. However, (at least for the German models) it was only the conector without the ML interface. But my dealer had one on stock so was no problem. Also the previous owner had both motorized stands, the floor and high one, plus the wall bracket. So lucky me, I have the choiceBig Smile

but, this appears to be the most recent thread on the bv1...

usa here... i have been contemplating the purchase of a bv1 (link version) from lifestyle (if the shipping doesn't kill me!). has anyone used one in the states? i assume they are all 220v; was a 110v version ever made? what else should i be concerned / know about w/ using one o'er here?

Well i just went straight to the back of him and it says between 220 v and 240v, the good part is that it can run both 50hz and 60hz!

All you need is a voltage converter to step up the voltage from 110v to 230v, easy. (someone will correct me if i am mistaken). Snap it up while the GBP is low!!!

You should be concerned about PAL/NTSC. It's probarly not going to work!

thanks! that is one of my primary concerns! pal/ntsc converter anyone?

this is from the product guide...

"CTV system According to type: B/G/D/K/I/L/L´/M, PAL/SECAM, NTSC on AV"

it shows both PAL and NTSC listed...

    what am i missing?

    ++++edit++++

i came across pal/ntsc in this thread

my intentions for the set is as a link in the kitchen from my avant in another room, with a second coax feed for local channel control (direct cable feed - no cable box) so as i have no need to control a box, am i ok?

It shows NTSC on AV. I assume AV is an input (scart)

    Re: Comments on BeoVision 1

ntsc on AV is correct (according to the above) i am looking for ntsc on the coax in, so...

i think i might be in luck??? ntsc appears to be selectable (at least on some sets)...

    fingers crossed...

    from the manual...

"(SYSTEM…) TV broadcast system – this option is
only available on certain types of TV sets, as the
TV broadcast system is usually selected
automatically. The following information may be
entered if SYSTEM is available: B/G (for
    PAL/SECAM, B/G), I (for PAL I), L (for SECAM L),
    M (for NTSC), and D/K (for PAL/SECAM D/K)."

    Re: Comments on BeoVision 1

The Beovision 1 was not made for the North American market and as far as I am aware was never formally marketed there either.

There was six versions of the Beovision 1 as follows:-

    • First generation BV1 with type numbers 860X
    • BV1-L with type numbers 866X
    • BV1-LS with type numbers 865X
    • BV1 Update 1 with type numbers 861X
    • BV1 Update 2 with type numbers 862x
    • BV1 Update 3 with type numbers 863X

Mains power is limited to 220 to 240 volts AC and draws about 80 watts

The analogue tuner supports all the European standards, but not NTSC used for analogue transmissions in the US.

However the TV itself does support the displaying of NTSC signals from a set top box connected to the SCART socket.

So, with a step up mains power unit (remember power draw will be higher at 110 volts) a Beovision 1 could be used in the US PROVIDED it is used with a STB and could not be used as a link TV because of the analogue tuner, unless the master TV was also a European TV

    Regards Keith....

    arrgh!

keith, i knew it would be you to lift me up or gut me!

well... it seemed like a good idea! i really wanted this as a link -and, alas my avant is an 8490 us model... however, i guess i could use it simply as a standalone with a set top box. i would need an r/g/b to scart cable (or similar) running then to to the AV input? also, if i can't have video thru the masterlink, might i not at least have audio? -90% of the reason i wanted to run the link anyway...

ok, so i am close to the end of my rope on this idea, so i will throw a wild one out to you folks...

i have an mx5000 that has been delightful and still works great after some warm up time. a bit annoying but no big deal -as it is on close to its last legs... would it be worth investigating gutting it and then using its connectivity modules in a bv1, and attaching it to the network with a beolink converter, or... am i completely mad?

    Re: Comments on BeoVision 1

Analog TV is horrible anyway, so i don't think you'll be missing out on anything, mine could be in the wrong country for all i knew, as i use a STB with a scart output, and the masterlink is for audio, linking video with RF i pointless, because i have everything in the TV (DVD player). You should get a BC1 :D Will just need to change it to region 2 (i think thats what us region is for dvd's in USA)

well, it sounds like you have yours setup the only way i could run one (plus my need for the voltage transformer). so, i assume the answer is that i would indeed have audio via masterlink... how do the built-in speakers perform? my idea was to install in a kitchen area w/ a bar (~700 SQFT). i suppose i could attach labs to the PL sockets...

starting to think that this may not be the solution for the space Sad perhaps i should just drop a BLactive and some labs there, or maybe a bl3500, and give up on video...

Yeah BL active would be great by the sounds of it, BV1 is a good bedroom counter part, the speakers perform well, but not as good as a BS1

BV1, is definitely a thumbs up by me. I own 2 black ones and i must say that comparing with my old MX, they are beautiful to look at and a talking point even they are not switch ON. They are one of the last and best small CRTs from B&O from my point of view. One of my set came with the ionic Beo1 remote which i find not as friendly as the Beo4 but then again, who cares, Beo 1 is a showpiece on the coffee-table, i use the Beo4 instead. Cheers

oh, what to do, what to do, what to do!Hmm

i really like the idea of the bv1 in the kitchen! i guess (one thing i haven't mentioned) my other concerns are regarding shipping... i am scared to death to send a tube across the atlantic. of course dave's bc1 made it a further distance! i am really torn. i would love to give lee the business, and he has a sale on right now to boot!

Do it! :) You won't regret it, he has one with the tall stand too. Shipping is insured, my TV arrived in tip top condition - sent in original crate
